Inventory and open tickets

Greetings!

How does Square POS treat items on open tickets for inventory purposes? Do the items come off the inventory at the time the ticket is saved or is it when the ticket is paid/closed? I just helped my shop manager to do a stock take, counting all items on hand. She has several open tickets for which the items have already been given to shipped to customers, but for which she is still waiting for payment.

Will what we counted be accurate, or do we need to also add in items from those open tickets?

Thanks!

Sandy

I haven't experienced inventory counts adjust until after the sale is completed. I'm not aware of a feature allowing for inventory to update while a ticket is still open. Consider dropping this down as a feature request and continue looking for opportunities to discuss your use case and the positive impact such a tool might have for sellers. https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/Feature-Requests/ct-p/Beta-Feature-Requests

Update.....when I went in to enable stock tracking, I left all quantities at zero pending actual counts. When I went back in to enter actual #s of items available, some items showed negative quantities for "available to sell." Can I assume that the difference between the total # I entered and the # available represents the items listed in the open tickets?

Yikes.....if anyone can explain this, I would be grateful.....I don't believe my previous assumption was correct. The difference between stock on hand and stock available doesn't match what is on open tickets. So what would explain a difference? Just to recap....I just turned on the manage stock option for each of our items this morning. I can't swear to this, but I believe all the quantities were zero (both "on hand" and "available") at the time I enabled stock management. The shop was not open today, and there were no transactions after I turned on stock management. So why did several items show 0 on hand, but a negative quantity available? I entered the counts of each item we counted today, but for that handful of products, the #available was less than the quantity I entered.

If I can't figure this out, I'm just going to tell our manager to ignore the #available, and just use the quantity on hand. Turns out that when I subsequently sync'd inventory with our WooCommerce shop, it used the "on hand", not the available numbers.
