Hello @Loritini !

I think Square would be perfect for you! Square has helped so many small businesses start and grow over the years, and it will grow with you as well. Square doesn't have any annual fees and there isn't a minimum amount you have to process yearly. The basic Square Point of Sale app is a great start. If you have a newer phone, that's all you'll need since the app supports tap to pay. If you want a reader, I recommend looking at the contactless reader versus the swipe reader. A few years ago there was a shift of liability for fraudulent payments: if you use a swipe reader and the charge is contested, you will lose. With a contactless reader you have a chance.

However you end up going about it, welcome to the wonderful and stressful world of small business! We have t-shirts and secret handshakes. 🙂

Hi Loritini,

Square is intended for businesses however, it's possible to use for personal use if that's your concern.  You will need to link a bank account and provide your SS Number at a minimum.   Understand that Square will report your income and provide you with a 1099k if you process more than $20,000 in gross sales from goods or services in the calendar year and more than 200 transactions in the calendar year.   More details here.   And it's a good idea to understand Square's Fees - it's pretty straight forward.  As far as how you want to accept the payment, you can invoice the customer direct, create a payment link or sell in person.  Additionally, you can get a free Magstripe Reader that will work with your smart device and Square's free POS app so basically, after you're all setup - you only pay the transaction processing fee.  You also have the option to setup a free website.
