How to use square without a mobile phone

I recently opened a square account and believed it was ready to use. I made a sale. I got a message saying that they detected unusual activity. WTF is unusual about a sale? They then insisted that I use a mobile phone to jump through a lot of hoops. I use a wired phone. Is there any way to deal with square without a mobile phone?

I use the Dashboard online in Square a lot to navigate invoicing, subscriptions, and online sales. But in reality, I think most apps for processing are geared toward mobile device use. How did the payment process? Did you key it in? I know with my last processor before Square that when we had to key in transactions on days when phone lines were down and Ethernet was down that transactions were often held because we normally swiped cards in person.  Did the transaction ultimately process?

I find that almost everything including my tv requires use of a cell phone - which still makes me laugh not having had a cell phone until after graduating from college (just a funny aside). But in all seriousness - a lot of two-factor authentication and authentication apps have valuable security features and I do like the security of a linked mobile device so that I am getting notifications from Square as well as login activity etc.

@MPME ;

Besides using a cell phone you could use a Tablet ( Android or Iphone).  You will need internet connection for all transaction so if you do not have have a Tablet with a cell signal you can connect through a WiFi signal and an internet router.  These are the best ways to take a secure payment using the Square card readers.  If you use the Square dashboard and Manually enter the Credit card information you would pay Square's Highest fees.  Currently I am using the Square Stand with a Wifi Ipad and it has worked great since 2019 for me.  For all credit card processing you would need an internet connection to verify the card is not stolen, has funds available etc.  Now there are ways to bypass this verification but that could be a loss for you if when you are online and find out the card was stolen, you are out the products you thought you sold.  Little by little Square is adding ways for you to process credit cards securly with a computer and a terminal device.

My main question I would ask Square was why or what through out the Suspicious activity notification?   Was the Transaction a High amount?  Was it your first time logging into Square from a new device.

I setup my entire Square account through a Computer and only added an old Android tablet that could only connect through Wifi to my account.

So how not to use a Cell phone....

1- Tablet with Wifi

2- Online Dashboard - Virtual Teminal

3- Square Register system

4- Square Terminal all in one hand held device

5- Square Stand -which uses an Ipad Tablet device

Currently I do have my cell connected to my Square account but only use that to check a few daily reports, all my sales run through my Square Stands and all my reports I get from Square or download the Data to Excel to manage my business.
