Does Square integrate with Quicken?

I’ve heard a few sellers ask if Square integrates with Intuit's accounting software Quicken.

Re: Does Square integrate with Quicken?

Hi there @SilvaLining - Violet here, stepping in for JJ.

Square doesn’t currently have a direct partnership with Quicken. If you’re curious about any of Square’s supported partners, check out our Square App Marketplace. Any of the apps listed on this page are open for integration.

At this time, we do not have any further information on whether or not integration with Quicken is in our future.

I’ve shared your feature request with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on feedback like this. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

Re: Does Square integrate with Quicken?

Unfortunately, at this time, Square doesn’t work with Quicken, but there are some great alternatives. Square works with several accounting apps that you can integrate directly with your Square account. One of the most popular accounting softwares is another Intuit product, Quickbooks.

In addition to Quickbooks, Square also partners with Commerce Sync, Xero, TaxJar, and many others. You can see a full list of accounting apps right from your online Square Dashboard

I am also a Quicken user. I have been using Quicken since the 90's  yes that is correct  back in the floppy drive era.   I keep track of my Account Receivable for several businesses, not to mention  a wide variety of other types of transactions.  I did look into to Quick books but the platform does not provide the  the variety of integrations I require.   It is extremely time consuming for me to have to use a csv format and also manually enter transactions.  Not everyone choses to use Quick books for their businesses.  Please Fix This.

Hey @theresef63-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

At this time, we do not have an integration with Quicken. Keep an eye on this thread for updates on the status of this integration.

Sorry about that! Please take a look at the other Accounting & Tax apps that we do integrate with.

Thanks again

I agree, there are many small businesses that use Quicken Home and Business, I don't see the issue, Square needs to keep up with the times.  Just the ability to import the Quicken file would be an asset.

I totally agree with you.  It is quite frustrating that I have to manually enter all of my information from Square wherein I can simply import my Paypal transactions.  Sad thing is I prefer Square over Paypal. I use Quicken Home and Business because I downgraded from QuickBooks.  I didn't really need Quickbooks any longer and this is quite a disappointment.  For Square to keep trying to send us to another application that they do integrate with is ludicrous, especially when we are all telling them that we use Quicken.  Come on Square!  Please add Quicken Home and Business to your apps list for integration.  You will make a HUGE amount of happier with your service.

Hey there @AvonRhonda

Wanted to share a bit of information regarding Square integrations. Square doesn't create integrations. Quicken Home and Business would need to implement our APIs in order to allow their customers to connect Square to their services.  I suggest you reach out to them and ask them to integrate with Square.

I hope this information is helpful and Welcome to the Seller Community!

I switched to Square because it was supposed to be easier.  Connector doesn't work with my iPhone but works with my iPad.  Then, I tried to link it with Quicken so I could integrate like I do with PayPal.  Quite sad this hasn't happened yet.  QB and Quicken were at one time the same company, however, the formats haven't changed.  It should not be a difficult problem to integrate.  Appear more that Square doesn't want to have to pay any fees to Quicken for the transfer capability.  Very disappointing.  Quicken has been around longer than QuickBooks.

2023, still not supported?  As a sole proprietor, Quicken (not Quickbooks) is a standard accounting system.  Would be nice if transactions could be downloaded to Quicken.  I'm able to do it with PayPal and Venmo.

@AmeliaKD ;

Maybe you can ask Quicken if there is a way to import CSV sales data to Quicken from Square.  That is currently how I get my data into QuickBooks.  The Integrations between Square and Quickbooks is not detailed enough.  Square basically would give the $ sales but not which Items were sold in the integrations.  I have been combining two csv files from Square and then uploading the one combinded file to Quickbooks.  Now I get each item sold, the quantity, tax customer (if available) and squares Fees per transacation.   Some sellers just use the Sales totals for the day as one entry.... meaning the Gross Sales, Discounts, Returns, Taxes, and Squares Fees as 1 total for the Daily sales.  It all goes to how much detail you want in your Quicken accounting software.

Here is a thread in the Quicken for windows help area.

https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7922885/easiest-way-to-import-transactions-from-txt-or-csv

I know this is not a quick integration but it might help you get the data into Quicken until one comes out.

That's just way too much work, and what if something is missed? What if multiple items are missed?

It isn't too hard, that in 2023, Square would be giving you a more detailed connection to QB and the same connection to Quicken. Considering Square makes $$$$ off of the sellers, and has been since they started.

What did I see? 2.9% + .10¢ per swipe or tap and 3.2% + .10¢ for manual entries. That's unless you use their highest subscription, which lowers to 2.6% + .10¢ per swipe or tap.

@SilvaBot ;

Welcome to the Square community as I see this is your first post.

With the QB integration who developed the Integration was it Square or Quickbooks?

Why is QuickBooks not pulling the more details from the CSV files?  Square has a good API tutorial that helps people pull this data.  Other integrations Like Zapier when this happens in Square,  A Zap will do this.

Why is Quicken not making an app that connects to Square?

Also for @AmeliaKD The rest of this might explain why Square does not and will not work with Quicken.

Have you looked on the Quicken forums to see why they charge you and do no make this integration to Square?

Quicken forum basically does not connect to any POS system here is from Quickens Forum:

Quicken merely connects to your banking world and merely downloads existing transactions -
just like you would see if you logged into your bank online website ....
so, once a POS transaction is posted to your bank account,
you will be able to download it in Quicken (after some bank processing delay)

Here is a link : quicken-clover-point-of-sale-system  ( yes this article shows the same issue from Clover to Quicken)

Why Quicken does not have a connection to a POS system and probably will never have one is, its best suited for Personal Finance and rental properties.  That is according to Forbes :

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/software/quicken-vs-quickbooks/

Quicken vs. QuickBooks: At a Glance

Quicken and QuickBooks are two popular accounting software programs. Quicken is designed for personal finance while QuickBooks is geared toward small businesses. Both programs can track income and expenses, create budgets and generate reports.

However, there are some key differences between the two. Quicken is less expensive and easier to use than QuickBooks. It also has more features for personal finance, such as the ability to track investments, keep track of rental properties and create debt reduction plans.

QuickBooks has more features for small businesses, such as the ability to track inventory and create invoices. Ultimately, the best accounting software for you depends on your specific needs and budget. If you’re managing your personal finances, choose Quicken. QuickBooks is best for managing your small business.

So after reading all this I think I may know why this will not work but does for PayPal and for Venmo. Neither of those show what items or taxes are charged and are more like a standard bank account.  Credit and Debits only....money in and money out.  With Square you get lists of Items Sold, Sales Tax, Squares Fees per transaction, Quantity sold.... Does Quicken have fields for all this to be imported to and accounted for?  With business accounting software businesses need to have accounts for Sales Tax, which Quicken does not record sales tax unless it is as an expense not a Liability.  When a Store collects Sales tax for a service or items, the sales tax is set into an account in the accounting software as a Liability that must be paid to the Taxing authority.  With Quicken it suggests for rental properties.  This is because Housing is usually not Taxable.  When I rented out houses we did not charge $500 a month plus a Sales tax of 6% for example.  Yes we had to pay income tax on the money earned but that is not the same as the sales tax we collect then Pay as a business.

Please update us on any future Quicken integration. I see that Square users have been asking for this SINCE AT LEAST 2017. I would like to switch from PayPal to Square but that's not feasible as it would take too long to enter all my transactions manually. Many small business owners do not need or want QuickBooks as Quicken is adequate for our purposes. To ask us to change our entire accounting system just to please Square does not seem very customer-forward.

Hi @vajrap!

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for your interest in switching to Square.

I’ve had a look at the latest discussions around Quicken, and unfortunately there is nothing on the roadmap in terms of an integration.

If there’s any movement on that, I’ll be sure to circle back to this thread to let you know.

@vajrap ;

Did you ever look into Exporting your Square Transactions and then Import that csv file to Quicken?

From the Quicken boards I found this program https://www.quicknperlwiz.com/

Also from looking up CSV file to Quicken File i found this company which converts a csv file to the proper format for Quicken.

https://www.propersoft.net/

I used a similar program to import my Square CSV files to Quickbooks because the Square integration did not import all the Items and other things for inventory. By downloading the Transacations Details Csv file from Square, and using an csvtoQBO converter I was able to get all the data into Quickbooks that I wanted.  Any Integration between Square and the Software you want to use (in this case Quicken) would come from a 3rd party or by Quicken in this case.

Quicken is meant more for Family and personal expenses and not setup for businesses.  This might be why there is no integration or will be any soon.

What are you trying to Import from Square to Quicken specifically for sales Data?  The Daily totals?  Square Fees?  Items Sales Data?  The Quickbooks Integration from my understanding in the Square Forums works but does not import all this detailed information, and any integration from Square to Quicken may not give you the Details your looking for.  The bottom line of the image below states "Quicken does not integrate with other accounting software, so users must manually enter data."

Here was a Google search comparing Quicken and QuickBooks :
