As I see this is your First post let me welcome you to the Square Users forum.
Since this is in the Square Point of Sale site, I will answer it that way. Square does not create a QR code for people to pay at a retail location unless you also have a Square Website. The QR code customers scans on an item basically takes you to the Square webpage for the purchase to be completed.
Now if you can make your own QR code and have the QR as a SKU. A square Stand will read the QR code as a 2D barcode to put the item in your cart with a Price. You would need a compatible 2D barcode reader to read the QR instead of it just reading a 1D barcode.
Think of a QR code as a Barcode in the shape of a Square. The Barcode Reader just Reading the QR code. If the QR code has a SKU assigned to it, then the 2D scanner will look it up in Square. If the QR code is associated with Square making the QR code then it will take you to a Web Page for that Item.
Any other questions let me know.
