The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Card Reader
I am not really new to Square but I have not used it in years so I'm sure things have changed. First I need to know if I need to return my old reader. I have one that just swipes the cards but I know that most credit cards have went to chips. Second I just need to know if it is still simple to use. Just add the amount of the sale and swipe the card?

your reader is still fine. I would definitely recommend you purchase a chip reader to protect yourself from fraudulent transaction chargebacks with the liability shift.
yes, you can still just type in an amount and then charge the card.

I received my Square device many years ago and never used it. Is it still viable for utilizing?

Hey @greatsofas — thanks for reaching out! I saw that a few other sellers asked a similar question and I merged your post into this thread for more information. Have a look at @VanKalkerFarms's answer above and let us know if any concerns remain. Hope this helps!
