Prohibit Discounts on GIFT CARDS and ITEMS

We have an ongoing issue with discounts being applied on GIFT CARDS. For YEARS, I've told my employees to NOT use a discount when selling a gift card - but, they ALWAYS forget. It is important to us to have the ability to prohibit a transaction's discount on applying to GIFT CARD sales.  There are also certain ITEMS that we don't discount - it would ne nice to have the option at the item level to prohibit transaction discounts. (but, not as important as GIFT CARDS)!!

You could in theory do the inverse of this. 

Take away your employees ability to use discounts and then setup all your discounts as automatic discounts if it fits into the predefined parameter.  It lets you auto discount based on item type, quantity and time of day.   

Perhaps that works? 

I had an employee add 30% off 3 times once lol.  so that customer got 90% off gift card.  

Bad at math.  I thought it was just this one employee that didnt understand 30% x 3 times = 90% but surprisingly others said thats how they would do it also *facepalm*.

Definitely understand the struggle with discounts being added to your gift cards. 

Have you tried the workaround provided by @Innerglo ?

That suggestion would be the best option while the specific feature is not available at the moment.

Restricting discount to items is key to prohibiting discounts applied to items that should not have a discount.  We work with Artists and some do not allow discounts.  Users can apply a discount to the entire transaction (instead of limiting this to individual items) this causes issue when paying artists who do not allow discounts on their items.  This should be a relatively easy change in the programming of the system to not allow a discount on particular items.
