My last name changed in 2015, but why can I not change it in my account?

Re: Owner name change - Status changed to: Not currently planned

Hi @hairbydani - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋

I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where other Square Sellers have discussed this topic as well. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future.

At this time, the ability to edit the Owner's name listed on a Square account is a feature request. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates in our Seller Community.

This is a TERRIBLE “resolution”:

consider e-commerce. I drive all my business thru the site attached to this account. To implement this solution, I have to 100% wipe out my business and it’s web presence and piecemeal duplicate each page, rebuilding it in the new account? Guess what that equals: using STRIPE or another service and simply scrapping Weebly (which I ONLY use due to its integration with Square, it has major deficiencies for my particular industry that I have to simply “tolerate” as it is to use Weebly thru and with my Square account. If I need to rebuild this site, I might as well drop Square and use my own payment processing or Stripe if it’s not a fully integrated module like Weebly-Square.

You’d think an enterprise this large would have more consideration for its bread and butter consumers and their needs.

Hi @SeasideBoudoir - Welcome to The Seller Community, it's always nice to see a new face 😊

I appreciate you taking the time to provide us with this feedback.

At this time that is a feature request that our engineers are aware of. We value your suggestion and hope to have this implemented at some point in the future.

In the meantime, if you'd like to add this to our Ideate Board, our engineers would love to hear from you.

As always, feel free to stop by The Community with question, concerns and even feature requests. We are more than happy to assist.

There is a way to do this now, but I don't remember all of the steps. Let me find the topic for you.

I need to change my legal name in my personal info but I don't see anywhere to update it. What should I do? I have all the legal documentation to prove that it has been legally changed, what should my next steps be?

Hi there, @renritchot,

We have moved your post to a board that discusses this topic! Also, welcome to the Seller Community! 🥳 We are so happy to have you here. While you are here, we recommend checking out our Orientation & Etiquette. Hope this helps! 😊

Where's the new board discussing this topic? Most of us who have been waiting years for this option would like to know. lol

I get that the SSN is tied to the account, but in the situation of someone getting married/divorced and needing to change the last name, there should be an option for that without having to create a whole new account since the SSN is still the same and not changing so what gives. Why has this simple issue not been fixed?? If the SSN of the owner is not changing we should be able to edit the last name for crying out loud...

Hey there, @hriedl -

Completely understand your frustration your frustration with being able to edit the name on your account during any life event. At the time, it's still a widely popular feature request among sellers.

I have moved your post over to our Ideate Board where other sellers have mentioned this feature too. Our Product Team can see how popular it is and how long our sellers have been asking for it.

They will review the feature before it would be added to the roadmap. After that, more information will become available to our Community Moderators to update the status on this post.

people get married and divorced every day.  Names of the owner may change but the SSN does not... and in order to transfer the ownership technically to yourself, you have to close out balance accounts.  Problem then is we are not allowed to have another. Even under the new name.  A legal name change should not be a punishment.  With proper documentation this should be a simple transition.
