With stock tracking disabled, does it effect the inventory count of the item?

I have both tracking and non-tracking enabled with-in a certain item for variations. However, my cycle counts are off as inventory is still being shown for non-tracked items for which I have sold. My inventory dollars are way above what I physically have because of this. Do you actually need to have tracking on for every item/variation for sales to deduct inventory? This can't be as I utilize online sales for every variation, whether physically in stock or not, therfore having the tracking off so as to be able to sell online.

@kcstrikezone ;

Since no one has attempted to answer you, and I was avoiding this since you use Square online and I do not.  Not sure if this will help.  Currently I have an Item "Patriotic Summer", since its an election year we sell 2 variations of this one with each candidates name on it.  For the Main Item we keep inventory, but for the variations of the Presidential candidates we do not as we just add their name as the label.   The day after the election I can see how many of the Variations I sold respectfully.  The Main Item and the Variations are reduced at the time of Sale.  But the Variations are showing a negative amount for quantity, since we have not added the candidates for inventory, but we keep Tracking of Stock turned on for all items and variations.  I just am not sure how this effects you with the Online portions of your items.

Now I do have other Items that Tracking is Turned off, and I have no idea how many are in stock, but I can see on a sales report how many I sold.  Reason I do this is, they might be Items I was given as testors to see if we liked them and would want to sell in store.  I gave it an Item name, and the Description just states when I placed these for sale and quantity given usually 5 or 10.  These items with Tracking Off always show 0 in stock on my POS in items or actually just a Dash.   I think to Sell online you need a Quantity so as you do not Oversell or Sell when your Inventory hits 0.  Best I can tell you for Online sales would be Turn Tracking on for that item of how many of them you can make or have available in say 3 days.  Use that as your Quantity, and the in the description say these are made to order and the Quantity on hand is what we can ship in 3 days or something similar.  This way it keeps you from putting too many available that will over whelm you, and still has it shown online and in stock.   I have to do something similar with my candles.  My site has that our candles are handmade and are usually shipped in about 3 days.

You are also asking an Online question in the Retail tab and not the Online Tab, if you ask again in the Online Tab someone might give you better Ideas on if this is possible or better workarounds for your situation.

Ok, for instance. I received a Track Tundra Fire variation 12lb via my purchase order with my vendor. I do not have tracking on as I usually do not carry this item in my store, but the item is available to purchase online, hence why I do not have tracking on, so that I may be able to do so. Now, I sold this item in my physical store to my customer. The item is still showing in my inventory. Why?
