Hello,
I'm a new Square online user and subscribe to the Performance Plan.
I'm currently using the paid website designing services provided through square and had a professional photo taken for my home page banner.
When I toggle between the Mobile view versus the Desktop view, I noticed, the image and the text changes disproportionately on the mobile view. When I ask the company designing, they said it's a Square limitation but that doesn't sound right as I thought mobile responsive design was fairly standard these days.
This is a big deal for me because the home page banner image shows my product packages on a table, which gets cut off on one platform. Please help 🙏
Kindly advise. Thank you so much.
Hi @Kyikyi
Is your site able to be viewed yet, or is it still under construction? If so mind sharing a link?
I'm not 100% sure about Square's limitations when it comes to designing and mobile response as I use Wordpress. However you are correct and mobile resp. design is pretty much a standard. They may be correct however as far as the limitations, but maybe they just need to dig a bit deeper to change each.
For example on my website, when I'm editing a page, the theme that I use has the option to switch views between desktop/mobile/tablet. This way I can get the best image sizes for each and its a seamless view for the end user no matter which device they are using.
@AdamB may be able to offer a bit more insight though as to whether the mobile/desktop view can be edited separately.
Thank you so much for replying to my question. My website is still under construction so I'm "previewing" the website under mobile and desktop options. I don't get it, the text and image placement changes quite substantially between desktop and mobile 😞
No worries at all.
So with the items changing like that, it is quite normal to be honest, and it would depend on Squares default settings. I would almost certainly think though that you could have the ability to edit each one, so that you can get the best SEO settings for each view (mobile/desktop). Actually @MJD I believe has Square site, and may know whether or not you can edit between the two.
Here's a screen shot of my site what i'm referring to, the desktop icon and mobile (and tablet) allows me to tweak, edit and reposition things to get the best overall placement and view for each mode, which will in turn boost my page speed scores.
From my own experiences, if there is something that's two items/photos/text boxes next to each other when in desktop view then these will be places under each other.
I also find that while images will shrink quite drastically (especially landscape ones) the text doesn't shrink nearly as much.
All of this I see as design decisions of a responsive website, as if my text changed as much as the pictures then you'd not be able to read it 😂
This is my site on my laptop
And on mobile:
Thanks for the tag, @Minion. @Kyikyi, do you think you could take screenshots of what you are seeing? It's not unusual for background images to change on different screen sizes and we don't currently have options to control it separately on mobile or desktop. A lot of what will make it work best for you us choosing an image that looks good regardless of screen size and proportion.

Thank you very much. I took screenshots of desktop & mobile views but I cannot figure out how to upload the screenshots. I click on the camera icon in the toolbar and there's a field for image "source." I have no idea what exactly that means 😞

Once you choose the camera button, it should say "choose files", If on a PC, i'm not sure if the wording changes on mobile
I have the same issue. If I go to the mobile view on my website I can make it look perfect for mobile... but then it changes the desktop view and now the desktop view is screwed up. Every other website builder you can change the aspect ratios and positioning between mobile and desktop. Square seems to only let you do one.... WHYYYYYY???

Hello there @KingaW
We were discussing this earlier, the reason behind this limitation is that Square Online was intended to be as simple as it could be for our Sellers. When Square Online was created our goal was to help Sellers get an online presence without having to spend time learning how to create a website. We are aware that as businesses grow they may require more complex websites that offer deeper customizations.
As I mentioned in our last conversation submitting a Feature Request for this would be great, so our Product Team is able to learn about the needs of your business and track other Sellers' interests.
