Feature Request: Track inventory on modifiers

Feature Request: Track inventory on modifiers

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Tracking Modifiers in Inventory

One of the things I sell are archery bows.  When I sell a bow, it comes with a bowstring.  I also sell individual bowstrings.  I track inventory for bows AND bowstrings.  At the end of the day, I would like to see the TOTAL number of bowstrings out of my inventory (strings that went out wilh each bow + the strings sold individually).

The only way I've seen to do this are 1) "sell" a string with each bow, reducing the price to $0.00, or 2) attach a modifier to each bow that has the proper size bowstring automatically attached.  Option 2 would work best for me because I would eliminate employees forgetting to perform the steps in option 1, however I cannot find a way to accurately track my bowstring inventory while employing option 2.

Any suggestions?

Hi @JC1776 - Thanks for reaching out! Additionally, welcome to the Square Seller Community 🎉

I merged your post with a thread where other sellers have discussed this topic.

When tracking item stock, modifiers will not be tied to inventory. In other words, Square's system won't recognize if you run out of a specific modifier (or strength of your product). This is currently a feature request.

However, you can add stock amounts to each variation to track each flavor of the brand.

I hope this information is helpful but please let us know if you have any additional questions. Always happy to assist you! 😊

I'm surprised including modifiers in inventory count (or much of anything with non-cost modifiers) is still a "feature request" after 5 years! That's a good argument for competitors geared more specifically toward the hospitality industry.

Thank you for your feedback, @GACoffee We will make sure to share this with the teams.

Hello!   I saw that this was once a thread, but it has been locked.   It had comments spanning over FIVE (5) years, and some as recent as this year (2022).

As a resturant, I am EMPLORING Square to please bring this into development.   I see many folks who would like having this ability who have moved away from Square as a POS.   The ability to track inventory for modifiers would be game changing for those of us in the food service industry, especially when we link our in-store POS to our Square Online Ordering ability.   The ability to:

    A)  Know instantly that we have run out of an item, and it being moved to a "out of stock" situation, &

    B)  Our customers who are ordering online knowing immediately that something is now out of stock..

would be the most beneficial thing not only for ourselves but our customers.

We have the exact same challenges as @mdf92380. We're a restaurant as well and have items that are both items and modifiers and need their inventory to be connected so both go out of stock at the same time. Right now it's super difficult for us to manage our inventory without that with how many sku's we have for our menu items.

I am currently working on this for one of my clients. Restoke is a platform that integrates with Square that can track the inventory of modifiers. You'll be able to use that to accurately log food costs and inventory on hand. The only limitation is that it won't update the inventory in Square, which could cause some limitations with online ordering and availability.

I also would like this as an update.  We have a concessions stand and it would be helpful for tracking buns and cheese for cheeseburgers/hamburgers. I would love to be able to sell a cheeseburger and it take the burger, bun and cheese out of my inventory.  As is I have to count the buns every few days to know how many if have.
Thanks!

Please make an inventory count on modifiers a thing.  It is beyond necessary and helpful.  Should be a Square standard feature.

Agreed!!
