Different Prices for online and retail pos(brick and mortar)

We currently have square retail Pos and for our online store we use shopify.  We want to go with square online, but my issue is you cannot have 2 different prices on one item.  Which makes no sense.  And I do not want to make it a discount.  That was the option from square online.  They were trying to tell me you will make more sales this way.  Does anyone know if this is going to be fixed.  OR do you know if I can hire a web coder for this. I really want to stick with square because of the loyalty and marketing.

Any help would be great.

Square if you are reading this.  A lot of people are looking for this function!

Hey @mattsdugout,

Expanding on what @rtfulk mentioned, currently, we don't have the capability to have different prices for items sold online versus in-person at the retail point of sale (POS), as they automatically sync.

However, a potential workaround is to set up the same item twice (e.g., "Sneakers POS" and "Sneakers Online") and then hide the "Sneakers POS" item on your Square Online Dashboard. This way, it won't be available for purchase on your website.

I don't think there would be a way to have 2 different prices on one item, I don't think a web coder could do it either. I think that type of coding structure would not be avaialble to us. When you put up an item on the dashboard, it automatically puts that item with all the info: photo, description, SKUs, price and inventory into your online store, if you have the online store enabled with Square.

Would t this make it two separate inventories to manage?

Thanks Robyn,  I am not going to do that.  I just feel that this has been asked a million times and no one is listening.

Have a great day!

I was just about to ask this same question but this thread came up as I was typing.

I too have an actual store and I want to now have different online prices compared to my in-store prices. I really don't want my online prices to be shown as if they are on sale (reduced) and I really don't want to have to go through my almost 1000 listings to duplicate them to do a different online price.

It's really frustrating that this can't be done.

I need this function as well.  I have a Butcher shop using Square and we sell items PER POUND in store with an integrated scale.  But since Square cannot do Catch Weights nor preauthorization capabilities, I need to sell online for PER CUT.  Well some Cuts like a Tomahawk are almost 4 pounds.  So I need to sell online PER CUT and of course that is a different price.  In store would be lets say $20/lb but online I want the same Tomahawk to show $80/CUT.  I have been wrestling on how to accomplish this in square and still have not figured it out.  I might need to just make two different items where one is listed TOMAHAWK - ONLINE.

Any suggestions from anyone?

I wish I had a better answer for you @ViceKitchen however, I don’t know of a better way to accomplish your task.

Many years ago, when Square first offered online ordering, I realized that I required more comprehensive modifier groups for in-house orders than I needed for online orders, due simply to the design of the pos. As a result, I decided to recreate my entire menu for online ordering and created Modifier groups for both menus and my pos library is still using these until this day.

It works but it was an extremely tedious process, one I wouldn’t recommend to even my worst enemies.

This was a long explanation to tell you, I wish I could help. 😂

I hope someone here has the answer you’re looking for.

**@Square, I do wish Modifier Groups could be collapsible on our pos, this would simplify the entire process when waiting on customers.

Yes, I wish Square could l allow you to increase or decrease your online price. For me, I have a retail store and I also use Square for online and my in store pos. I want to do free shipping. I want to raise my online price to include the shipping cost. Not quite sure why square doesn’t offer this. It seems like it couldn’t be that hard. They do have an online sale price. Which also triggers the sale badge on the product. If we could have another box to do a price increase online. That could trigger a badge, such as free shipping.
