Right now, I believe, there is no way for a customer to place an online order without having state sales tax applied. I tried creating a coupon code in the same amount (in Maine's case 8% prepared food) but the tax is then applied post coupon & the two don't cancel each other out. Example:
$10 with 8% coupon applied = $9.20
$9.20 with 8% sales tax applied = $9.936
Is there a way this could be resolved & happen for Online Ordering without having to, in effect, create a tax free version of every item we offer?

Hey @RuckusDonuts,
Thank you for being a member of the Community.
In this scenario, you will need to create a separate item that will not be subject to sales tax. Unfortunately, there is no way for a buyer to remove the tax from an online order.

Hello @RuckusDonuts thanks for your post. I think you can turn off sales tax collection for online sites if you want to...check out your Dashboard setting here:
https://squareup.com/dashboard/business/manual-taxes
Under Shipping and Delivery taxes, select Manage Settings. There should be an option to turn off tax collection here.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I wasn't specific enough in my inquiry. I would like to be able to have our wholesale accounts place orders without being charged sales tax, but obviously want/need to still collect it from our retail customers. By turning it off where you suggested it would disable it for all sales, I believe.

Hi @RobynR! That’s what I was afraid of - having to create a tax free version of every Item. Aside from 2x our Items they would also be privy to others ordering them in that, even if not listed/visible on our menu page, they’d need to be listed as Visible in Inventory.
So basically my inquiry is impossible. Oh well…
