Add to Cart button does not change to View Cart

To preface all of this: I have a Shopify site already built for our shop and wanted to offer customers an option to pickup drinks on the go. I figured I would build out a square site just for drinks and link over to it from Shopify. My only issue, so far, is the following bug mentioned below:

 

I have noticed that whenever I add an item to the cart, the button on the item page still shows "add to cart" instead of switching to "view cart" and the user is left to go click on the shopping cart icon to actually finish the transaction. Is there a workaround for this? I've seen it work on someone else's square site. Also, I know the "buy now" button option is a thing, but I want to offer the option for customers to add multiple items to the cart.

 

I know customers would probably just figure it out, however, it's frustrating since the button (once clicked) remains as an "add to cart" button - leaving the customer to potentially add the same item again before realizing it. I'm trying to fend off having to do refunds on mistakenly added drinks before offering this link/option to our customers.

 

I don't need any offers to redesign our site, just looking for advice on this one annoying thing.

I currently only have drinks listed on there and it is live, so please don't follow through with an order or it will show up at our shop. Thanks!

@BBuckner So, that is some weird behavior.  I had to turn on my store and add an item.  In my store, after the item is added to the card, the entire item pop up goes away, which is what I would expect yours to do as well.  Something is definitely strange with your account/site.

 

Can you unpublish your site by going to Online > Website > Site Preferences, then scroll down to the section that says “Unpublish” and click on the Unpublish button.  You can then republish it as you always do.

 

This will have the effect of completely wiping out any ghost settings or errors your site might have, and giving you a fresh start.

 

Then go back into your store and try again. Like I said, after you hit the add to cart button, it should just remove the item popup window so that you can continue shopping.

 

Let me know how that goes, and we’ll go from there.

Just unpublished and republished the site. I haven't had a chance to really check it out (got two toddlers who need attention just now), but will see if it helps in a bit.

No need to check. I did. That did not work. Give me until morning. I’m going to look at some settings but it’s looking like you are going to need to contact support so they can escalate this yup the engineers.

I noticed that I got a green version of the "add to cart" button that said "added" but then it went back to "add to cart" again.

Yup. On more thing. I’m going to do a video in the morning showing how your order flow is different from mine. That way you have a little ammunition to give to the support folks. I’ll post it here when I can and let you know anything else I find out.

Hi again, @BBuckner.  First, my apologies for the delay in getting back to you.  Life happened, as usual.  I was checking out things and I noticed something odd.  In my online store, when a customer clicks on an item to order, a popup window appears.  See the attached video.  In yours, the popup window does not appear, but rather the item replaces the entire screen.  Did you change/toggle a setting that I can’t find to cause this behavior?  Because, if not, that could be the problem.  Let me know if you can remember doing anything to cause the item display to be full screen and now a popup.

@BBuckner Forget my last two replies.  I figured it out.  See the screen shot below.  You are using the Shop All/Retail Template for your online shop.  Since you are an F&B, the Order Online/Restaurants template would be the better experience, and it would give you the results you want.  To change the template, edit your site.  Then find your Shop All page and click the ellipses (…) to the right of it.  Select Switch template, choose the Order Online template, click Done.  Then save and publish everything.  Run a test and you should see the order flow that you are expecting.
