Structured Data for Google Merchant

I've got an alert from Google Search Console:

Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 7 Products issues:

Top Warnings

Warnings are suggestions for improvement. Some warnings can enhance your appearance on Search; some might become errors in the future. The following warnings were found on your site:

Missing field 'aggregateRating'

Missing field 'review'

Missing field 'url'

Missing field 'sku'

Missing field 'brand'

We recommend that you fix these issues when possible to enable the best experience and coverage in Google Search.

Looking at https://search.google.com/test/rich-results tool, I can see my shop's item pages have some structured data fields, e.g. image, description, price, but missing fields listed above. Is there a way to add these?

Hi @familiarcards, welcome to the Seller Community! I'll do my best to help help here.

- For the 'aggregateRating' and 'review' field, this is likely because customers haven't leave any reviews or rating for the product. If you've upgrade to a paid plan, you can enable product reviews and send request to customers after purchase.

- For the URL, each item should definitely have its own page and URL as well. You can check this under Website > Edit Site and scroll down to item pages. If you hover next to it, you'll see three dots > View page settings and be able to check the URL.

- For SKU, you should be able to add this either from your Square Dashboard (which will be sync over) or from your Online Site Overview > Items

- For 'brand', this is not a field we offer unfortunately.

I hope this will help!

@tranguyen thanks for your reply!

For me, SKUs are set for all items and are visible both in Square Dashboard and Online Item Library, but they are not exposed in structured data.

Thanks for letting me know @familiarcards! Hmm, it might be because the SKU field is designed more for internal usage (help sort item library, look up item, etc.) so it might not be visible in the structured data. I will definitely check with our ECOM team and see if they have any further insight about this as well.

Hi

I have exactly the same issue with my SKU (not in structured data) but would also like you to also consider global identifier (barcode) being visible in structured data. Brand would be good too but I do note your response above regarding this.

Are Square working on introducing visible SKU in the structured data? This would be the most important development we could foresee for our online shop.

Hi @SamRead, thanks for adding to the thread.

I've reached out to the Square Online team to gauge if this is something we'll be able to facilitate and if so, if it's already on our roadmap.

I'll let you know what they come back to me with.

Hi @SamRead

I spoke with the Square Online team and they let me know that there are no immediate plans to introduce this.

Could you provide a little more detail on why having a visible SKU in the structured data is important for your business so that I can provide feedback? Is this preventing you from having products listed on Google Merchant Center?

Thanks!

Ah, that's a shame. Yes, it's about visibility on search engines, and particularly Google. I imagine it would benefit a great many sellers using Square Online.

Thanks, @SamRead, I'll pass the information back and hopefully, this is something we'll be able to offer in the future. I agree that it would likely benefit plenty of merchants.
