I created discounts but the codes don't work on the website. What amI doing wrong?

How do I create discounts that work when you put in a discount code on the website? Are the codes caps sensitive?

Hi @trevorbrenin! Welcome to the Seller Community!

Are you trying to create a code that the customer manually enters during checkout in the Online Store? If so, that's done through Marketing (it moved recently). So you go to Marketing > Coupons > Create Coupon, and then enter all the specifics. Then the customer enters that in the Coupon Code box in the cart of your Online Store.

If you're trying to create a discount that is applied automatically in the Online Store, you go to Items > Discounts > Create a Discount. Be sure to toggle on "Automatic Discount" and choose your preferred settings. You'll also want to make sure that under "Apply automatic discount" you've selected your Online Store (as well as your POS, if you want it to apply there).

It's confusing that they're called different things and in different locations, but hopefully this helps! Let us know if you're still having trouble!

Codes are not case sensitive.  Unfortunately, there's no way to tell if you missed a step in the process as the volunteers here cannot look at user account settings.  Tech or Customer Support has that ability.   For starters, have you gone through the info listed here and the other related articles?  It's also helpful to provide an example (code and URL) as it's possible someone here may have some thoughts.

Hi @trevorbrenin, thanks for posting !

As @JK_Fiber_Art mentioned, it can be tough to pint point what's going on without taking a proper look at your settings.

I'd be happy to take a look though. Could you share a screenshot of how you set up your codes, as well as the URL to your website ?

Would love it to work online though.  If you buy one you get this free type of discount.  It does not work for the online version if categories are selected as part of the discount.  Works fine on the register or Point of Sale but it does not work with the online.  How can we get this to work now since categories will match our dashboard?  I get this message...

Category-based automatic discounts cannot apply to Square Online. To use automatic discounts on Square Online, select individual items in your automatic discount rules. Learn more

We have 12,000 items.  I do not have the manpower or time to individually select items that these apply to thats why categories are selected.  When can this be converted to work since everything will be controlled through the dashboard from here on out?
