More Flexible Ways to Earn & Redeem Loyalty Points

Posted this in the Feature Requests section, but thought it may be a good thread to get some other ideas and input!

I'd love to see more flexibility around how customers can earn and redeem points.  Our primary goal with using a loyalty reward system is to encourage customers to increase the size (in $) of their average ticket each visit AND increase the number of times a customer visits us each week (ideally we'd love to see the majority of our loyalty customers visiting 3 times a week!). In doing so, we are, of course, rewarding customers with free and discounted items that can be redeemed using the points they earn.

That being said, here are my ideas/thoughts on how I'd like to see more flexibility built into Square Loyalty to help drive those KPIs...

Earning Points

1. Within Loyalty promotions, I'd love to have a promotion that encourages customers to visit a certain number of times each week or month. Customers can only claim this promotion once per day just like it's already set up to do.  But instead of requiring a minimum spend or specific items/categories to be purchased, customers must hit a minimum number of VISITS

2. Within Loyalty promotions, it would also be nice to run a promotion where customers have to purchase a specific NUMBER of a designated item (or items) to earn a reward.  For example, instead of loyalty promotion where customers earn a reward every time they buy an item (or hit a minimum $ spent on certain items/categories), I'd love to be able to say "earn a bonus 50 points if you buy 5 iced lattes during this promotional period"

3. Alternatively, you guys could open up loyalty rewards so we could run 2 or more loyalty programs concurrently at a single location. Right now our Loyalty program awards customers 1 point for every $1 spent.  However, I'd also love to reward customers with point multipliers or free/discounted perks if they exceed a certain number of unique visits (I.e. they can only claim 1 visit per day).  This may be better suited for the new Reward Tiers you guys just rolled out?  Like customers can earn a 1.25x point multiplier if they visit 8 times in a month (avg. of 2 visits per week) but if they visit 12 times in a month (avg of 3 visits per week) they can get a 1.5x point multiplier.  This reward system would have to be on a rolling monthly basis rather than a yearly one that the current Tier program is on though. The goal here is finding ways to encourage and entice customers to increase how many times they come visit us!  As a cafe/coffee shop, our goals are to increase the average ticket size AND increase the number of visits.  Being able to reward customers based on spending AND combining that with encouraging a higher frequency of visits

Redeeming Rewards

1. It would be awesome if we could allow customers to redeem points for free modifiers.  As I mentioned earlier, we are a cafe/coffee shop, so some useful examples of this for our business would be letting customers redeem for a free extra shot of espresso, a free scoop of boba, or free scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen powder. All are modifiers that customers can choose to add for an extra fee (typically like $1). I think we'd see a LOT of customers opting to redeem points to cover the cost of some of these modifiers

2. We use Weebly for our online ordering since it's built into the Square system and syncs easily (most of the time). I know customers can EARN points when placing online orders with us, but we are constantly getting questions from customers as to when they'll be able to REDEEM their points when ordering online.  Any status update on this particular feature?

Hi GROVETEALOUNGE, I have been working on a solution to many of the problems you've outlined in this post. We've found that the Square loyalty app leaves a lot to be desired for creating compelling loyalty programs. If you want to learn more, just let me know and we can connect.
