Is the loyalty program a good fit for my business? Looking for some input
Hi fellow Sellers.
I'm looking for any input from anyone using the loyalty program with Square, or just input in general. I'm not a coffee shop, restaurant or anything similar to where people are visiting 2-3x a week.
I offer spray in truck bedliners, undercoating (oil and rubberized), along with aftermarket parts and accessories.
A little information on services.
Bedliners- Pretty much a one time job. Obviously when people trading their vehicle they end up returning for another Bedliner, but that is usually 3-4 years down the road.
Oil Undercoatings- This is recommended to be a yearly item. From late April until Mid November I am doing about 4 per day alone. This item I think would fit perfectly into the Loyalty program, I'm just not sure how at this moment.
Aftermarket Parts- This one took me many years to finally stumble upon a company that managed my product data seamlessly, with fitment, MAP, etc. The partial downside my distributors don't do drop shipping, so It is secluded to only my area. However this allows me to offer free shipping to me, and then in turn I can get the installation service as well. But this is maybe another avenue or loyalty?
That is pretty much the business of mine. If anyone has any ideas or any input on how to incorporate loyalty within my business or any other ideas I'm open to suggestions!

Hey Dan. Given that Square Loyalty currently is restricted to one loyalty program at a time, it’s going to be difficult to come up with a business-wide loyalty program. I, and others, have requested that loyalty be expanded to offer different programs for different product and service lines, but so far, what we have it is.
You might be able to do a dollar-based program with different rewards. For example, I can see where you could assign points to dollars-spent in some way. They you could give sliding scale rewards that rewarded the high spenders (like the bed liner folks). Maybe something like:
* 100 points can be redeemed for x% off aftermarket parts.
* 1000 points can be redeemed for 25% off an oil undercoating (I’m just throwing out theoretical numbers, of course!)
* 10,000 points can be redeemed for a discount on bedliiners
* etc.
You have up to 15 rewards that you can define, and the redemption side of things is where you will have your flexibility in making your program something that is both understandable and accessible — at least until Square allows us to have multiple loyalty programs going at one time. In your case, it sounds like you are trying to keep customer retention over a long time-frame, so this might work. You’d want to set up some automated reminders to remind customers they have points that never expire and to encourage them to keep building toward rewards when it makes sense. But your challenge here, to my way of thinking, is figuring out how to keep their interest in you over a long period without inundating them with “don’t forget me please” texts and alienating them.
Of course, your other option is to head over to the App Marketplace and look at third-party programs. I looked at a few recently (like Pintuna) and a few of them had more flexibility this way.

Hey Chip @TheRealChipA . I appreciate the response. Right after I posted this I saw another thread that you and Ryan commented on and both of those replies were filled with good information on the program.
Like you were stating, I think as far as what was kicking around in my head the idea of a dollar spent based system is what was floating around up there. The main one really being a loyalty for the yearly oil ones.. Which most are pretty much a guarantee since this is something that is recommended to be done yearly. but I feel like this from a customer stand point just adds that much more value to the service.
I'll have a marketing text/email go out around the beginning of April to help get customers in earlier than late Fall and keep some of my sanity this year.
I'll have to do some digging around, but if I can get those loyalty points to be used on my website (non Square) then that would just be icing on the cake.
Like always, your detailed responses are appreciated.

I’m happy I could help a little here. Don’t hesitate to reach out here or via PM if you have questions as you are putting this together. After a few years, I have a pretty good handle on how Square Loyalty can be used to our benefit.
I should also mention that I think you can make good use of loyalty tiers to your advantage here too. They are a perfect mechanism for rewarding your more “loyal” and active customers even more. Just another thought as you put a plan together. I use tiers to my high volume customer to build up rewards faster by earning points at a better rate than my normal 1 point = $1.

I did see you mention that in the other thread as well. The tiers I think would/could incorporate good with certain customers. I'll keep you in mind as I get the ball rolling on this. Thank you again!

I love seeing Square Champions supporting other Square Champions! 🤗
This thread is also VERY useful for anyone looking to get started with Square Loyalty. Thanks for getting the conversation started @Minion !
