Hi all
any idea if there is a way of blocking specific items from having a discount applied. Specifically the Deposit Return charge - but there are others -so that the government levy isn't being discounted as it needs to be charged for in full?
Thank you

Hi @TheBakeryRialto, thanks for posting !
Are you selling in-person, online or both ? How do you create your discounts ?
You're able to create automatic discounts with rules that only apply to items or categories. You can manually select the items that would avail from the discount, and omit the ones you want blocked. I understand it would be easier to manually select the items you want blocked from the discount instead, especially if you have a large item library, but this would be a feature request.
If you'd like to create an item or category automatic discount:
-
Log in to your online Square Dashboard, and select Items > Discounts.
-
Click Create a Discount, and enter the discount details.
- Under Automatic Discount, toggle on Discount Rules
-
To set a maximum discount value:
-
Log in to your online Square Dashboard, and select Items > Discounts.
-
Click Create a Discount, and enter the discount details.
- Under Automatic Discount, toggle on Discount Rules
- Select Item and Category and manually add items or categories
- Save
-
You can also find more information about discounts here.
I hope this helps but let me know if you have any other questions !

Thank you for this answer, but my question relates to BLOCKING specific items from having a discount applied?

Hi @TheBakeryRialto - just taking over for Lou here.
The steps to block certain items from having a discount applied are listed in Lou's response - however, a sale with multiple items from different categories will override that.
You would need to create a category, for example, 'Drinks/Bottles' and add all the items that are included in the Deposit Return Scheme to that category.
You can then create the discount from the steps above and apply all the categories except the Deposit Return Scheme category.
The limitation comes when you add items from two different categories to the sale. Once you do that the discount will apply to the DPS item, but you can manually remove the discount on an item level by selecting the item and removing the discount.
I understand that this may be difficult for staff during busy periods, but we don't have a more automated process at the moment.
