Takeaway in Square for Restaurants

Not sure on the expected order flow for a mixed takeaway . restaurant.

We have 1x square register, 2x square terminal, and one printer next to the POS / Coffee machine.

We're a cafe / wine bar, and have a heavy takeaway business in the morning/early afternoon for coffee. We then have wine and food orders later in the day.

How on the Square Register / Square Terminal do we accept a takeaway order?
We want the order to go through straight away, not assigned to a table, marked as takeaway

Assume I'm missing a step in the flow here - it seems the basic Square software is easier for this

So good news!
It looks like there's been an update that allows for a 'New Sale' without selecting a table!

Just in time 😀

Hey @mercuryfrost! Thank you for your post, would be happy to provide you with some clarity here.

I just need a little bit of clarification from you. When you say takeaway, do you mean that they come into the shop and then order a coffee in-person for takeaway? Or do they order online on your website, and then come in to collect their order? Are you using Square for Restaurants to take these orders? Or the regular Square Point of Sale?

Hi there, Square for Restaurants, and they come in-person for a takeaway coffee

Thanks @mercuryfrost - there's no way to manually set dining options on device levels at the moment.

A workaround could be to put the "default" dining option that you want at the top right of the screen next to where the ticket is so that employees will remember to select it.

From your Square Dashboard Menus > Edit POS Layout > Click tile space > Add Function > Select Dining Options wanting to be displayed > Move to Desired Position.

Before the item is selected for Takeaway, you press the Take Away/To Go function.

We also have some other suggestions from one of our Super Sellers marked as best answer here, it's related to phone orders but it maybe insightful anyway!

Hi,

So I *have* to assign a table to an order, even if it's a takeaway order? Open and close their ticket?
For a fast moving takeaway coffee trade, that's not an option.

I think we'll need to use the Square Register with Square POS, and the Square Terminals with Square for Restaurants.

Seems an odd oversight

Yes, that is correct @mercuryfrost. I can understand why this would be a nuisance. I'll pass your feedback to our team for the improvement of our products.
