How to Create a Marketing Campaign with Square: A Short Guide

Square Marketing tools can help you promote your business and drive repeat sales. In this short guide we cover how to set up an email marketing campaign with Square

What is Square Marketing?

With Square Marketing you can share news about seasonal offers by email, (e.g., tell customers about new Christmas menus or let Christmas shoppers know how to purchase gift cards), send an email to communicate changes in your business hours, or send customers a voucher by email to encourage visits.

Step 1: Read up on pricing for Square Marketing.

Square Marketing is a monthly subscription. The amount you pay is based on the number of subscribed customers (the customers you could reach via email) in your Customer Directory. Visit Square's Support Centre to view pricing for Square Marketing.

You also have the option of taking advantage of the Square Marketing 30-day free trial.

Step 2: Manage subscribers.

You can view and manage customers who are subscribed to your email list from your Square DashboardNavigate to your Customer Directory to see which customers are subscribed or remove those who are not (e.g., a customer who unsubscribed or an email from a previous campaign bounced).

Step 3: Build your campaign.

You can create and manager your campaigns from your online Square Dashboard. To get started:

  1. Go to Customers > Marketing in your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Click Create Campaign and select whether you’d like to send. an Email or Receipt campaign.

  3. Under ‘Choose a campaign’, select your campaign objective. You can choose a one-time blast campaign, or set up an ongoing automated campaign.

  4. If your business has multiple locations, you can select a specific location. This will determine which address shows up at the bottom of your emails and where you voucher can be redeemed.

  5. Select a pre-existing template from the theme library, or use the default template to customise your email to your marketing goal.

  6. Customise your Square Marketing template - you can select colours, adjust layout, font size, button size, email header styles and you can also add images, new text fields and Items from your library. You can also re-order these blocks of content so the email fits your brand.

  7. Select your recipients.

  8. Review your campaign then click Schedule or Send Now

Step 4: Set it and forget it.

Schedule your email campaign for a future date or send it right away.
