New Website Invoice Layout - Adds Stress & Time to Invoicing

I signed into square today to discover that the layout once again updated, and once again made everything incredibly spaced out.  I now have to scroll before I even input the first item.  To start, this takes place on the website its self, not any mobile app(s).

This is very problematic to me, as my business is essentially 100% done through invoices.  From where we started a few years ago when everything was tab-friendly and compressed, we're here now being presented with multiple extra clicks, scrolls and eye-sores.

This is partially why I left PayPal, after they did the same thing.   I'd really hate to have to move again, so I'm coming here for hopeful (but unlikely) help in this matter, or if nothing else, to provide feedback for everyone this affects.


MY QUESTION(S):
- Is there any way to restore the layout before this month?
-- If No, then: Is there an API I can write my own code for in PHP to fill out invoices without using the site?
-- If Yes, then:  How?

- Why the layout update?  This is two steps backwards!  If anything, make coupon codes work with invoices, or add features.  Please don't inflate the layout pointlessly.  I have to scroll so much now to fill out invoices and it's taking me even longer than it already has.
Where can I provide feedback for a new feature, that being a switch for an alternative view where invoices are compressed and without so much spacing, as they used to be last year?  I really believe that square should have a "touch-friendly interface" and a "user friendly interface" option.  The user friendly one, being very slim and easy to see and access as much information as possible without scrolling or adding extra clicks.

 

Screenshots:  This is at the normal 100% browser zoom (no zoom).  Three screenshots, with a silly narrow strip down each one, with everything over-padded by several times.  I just don't get it.  I add some times dozens of items here,  and it's now taking a century longer.  Please, bring back the compressed layout, OR provide an option for Pros with the compressed layout.

I pretty much agree with everything that you mentioned..  Like yourself, I use invoices 99.99% of the time as well and when this update occurred maybe a week or so ago, I said to myself ... "why, why make another visual UI change that was not necessary".  Maybe I'm missing the concept of how changing the UI of the invoices improved the functionality.  

 

Anywho, to answer your questions as best as I can.  As far as I know there is no way to revert back to a previous update.  that I am aware of.  This would actually be a very useful tool, however I don't see that being possible to implement.

 

Square does have Invoice API that can be found here, as far as how to execute that  I am no sure, you may need to reach out to a developer of sorts who can help you execute it. 

 

You can submit a request here for the invoices.  I think that would be a great suggestion if they could implement it, especially for those who are use the paid Plus version.

I am mildly a developer myself, but I don't have the time to worry about this sort of thing along side running a business, and I am sure no one else really would!  I tried not to say anything when square made everything slightly more padded, but this update that rolled out to me this week is unbearable.

 

I feel like square should have a toggle that makes their web interfaces "touch friendly" and "user friendly".  That would be nothing more than a quick CSS change to implement, as the back-end wouldn't change much at all.

If I make any discoveries, I will return here with my findings.  Alternatively, if I come up with a tool that might be used instead using API, I will return with that here as well.  With the API, all I will be doing is re-designing the exact same interface.. But I understand it would be against the TOS to develop a browser addon that merely changes the existing CSS to bring the old layout back, otherwise that might be the more simple route.

Regardless, I am eager for a solution.  I am sure we all are, and until then, I'm leaning to cancel my Pro Invoice subscription and other subscriptions in protest, as the features they bring aren't worth the stress.

Anytime, that is what we are here for.  

 

I 100% would like and kudos your feature request for a "classic view" switcheroo button to the invoices (or any section that it may apply to).  I don't need a lot of bells and whistles and popups and clicks and scrolls, especially when it comes to invoices.  

 

If I come across any information in this coming week about API and invoices that may be of use to you, I will be sure to post that information back here.
