Line Items not longer editable once selected.

After the new layout launch today, I can not longer edit line items.  They say "Regular" once selected.  I need to add information to each line item and have been doing so for the last 5 years without issue.  This will force me to find a different processor, if not fixed soon.

That will not work.  I need the line item to be editable, like it was yesterday.   I will be closing my account at the end of the month if this is not resolved today.

Hey @webscouts.  I think there is some confusion about a few changes that seem to have been rolled out that change how you do this.  It seems that the capability is still there for what you want.  Square has just changed how it is done so that it is more consistent with everything else.  Before I answer I need to know a couple of things:

  1. Do you use the Invoices App or do you create invoices on your online dashboard?
  2. I assume that when you say you need to “add information to each line item” you mean that you are adding notes that are specific to an item, and you want those notes printed on the invoice?

After I get your answers I’ll tell you how to do it, AND I’ll even attach a video showing how it is done.  It’s pretty easy, just hidden.

I create invoices on the online dashboard.  I have a bunch of line items that I select from and then add information to the line item.   ie..   iPad LCD Repair

I need it to say iPad LCD Repair (Serial Number)

I was able to do up until today for the last 5 years.  I have processed over 2 million dollars with square.  I have also asked many times for an alphabetic sort on the line items.

@webscouts I understand your issue.  And like I said, the capability is still there.  It’s just not as obvious as it used to be.  Don’t panic, and give me a little while.  I’ll post a follow-up reply shortly.  I’m trying to make sure I have all my facts straight first.

If I select a line item it is no longer editable.  it just says "Regular" under it.  This was working yesterday.

@webscouts So, first I’ll describe what you do. After you click the + to add an item and select and item from your library, you’ll see a pop-up window.  There is a new section (optional) called item note.  If you key in information in there (like serial number), this not will appear on the printed/emailed invoices just as before.

Having said that, that note DOES NOT show up on the invoice creator.  However, if i hit the Preview button at the top, I can see my notes there on the actual invoice.

I think this will get you what you want.  I’m including a video complete with narration that shows you what I’m talking about.

I hope that helps, and that you don’t have to “find a different processor.”  Let me know if you have any further questions.

Also, tagging @_Violet @JJ_ @MayaP Please watch my video after you’ve familiarized yourself with @webscouts‘ concern.  You’ll hear me say that I really think that any notes entered should show up on the invoice creator screen.  For the record, if I were to create an invoice with the Invoices app, those notes do show up on the invoice creation screen and I don’t have to preview to see them.  This tells me that the two ways of creating invoices are inconsistent and possibly that the dashboard experience has a bug in it that the engineers need to look into.  Thanks! (I can post a video of how the Invoices app does it if you need me to.  Just ask!)

This video is currently being processed. Please try again in a few minutes.

@webscouts do what you have to do, I guess.  Since you thanked me for the work I did in figuring out the change, and since I’m not Square but a fellow seller who volunteers time to help other sellers, I’ll just say “you’re welcome” since you thanked me for my time and efforts.  I appreciate the gratitude.

Thank you for looking into it.  I appreciate the help.  Am I the only who is having a problem with the changes?  How do I talk to someone who has some power? [redacted]  Support is a joke at square.

I am having a similar issue, however it is in regard to editing the price of a single item while creating the invoice. I dont want to have to go to item database and make a permanent change. I know I can add a discount to the whole order, but can't apply it to a single item?

Is this function available? Security setting?
