weebly's business site is discontinued

I received an email from Weebly stating the 'Business site Plan has been discontinued and I will automatically be updated to the Premium Site Plan on my next renewal date. The price I pay now is $300 a year or $35 a month. According to this email The Premium Site will cost $864 a year or $72 a month.

However, when I'm logged on to my Weebly account and I go to extend my payment plan, There is NO mention of any price increase or how the one I'm using has been discontinued. Which is weird. I would think that if this is true, why am I not seeing anything about these changes directly from the Weebly dashboard, where I would be making my payment from.

Is it possible that I got a scam email and it's NOT from Weebly?

If this is true about the price increase, I guess I will be leaving. My business is so small that it can not take a hit like that.

This is what is being advertised on Weebly site.

https://www.weebly.com/pricing

so I would triple-check the email, though I don't know how that would be a scam unless they are trying to get you to click a link and log in.  I would say what is on their site is correct.  you could always reach out to support here. https://www.weebly.com/app/help/us/en

WOW - I'd never looked at what a weebly site costs.

Quite a lot cheaper than Square's - and that seems odd.

I just checked the link you left for weebly pricing. The prices mentioned are not the prices they are charging. In fact, I have never seen those price options in the 3 years I've had a website. Are they old prices? If so, they need to remove it.  My monthly price that I've been paying for 3 years just went from $36 to $79. I chose to cancel. And of course when you cancel, that ask why. So I told them it was too pricey for my small business. That's when I came here to see if there were any new comments. I decided to check you link you posted, to see for myself. I was quite surprised to see how cheap the pricing was. Not the same pricing that I've been paying. Not even when I started 3 years ago. So, what is up with Weebly stating these prices when what they are charging is something entirely different? I went back to my account & clicked on reactivate. I then canceled again as the price remained the same, but at least I was able to ask these questions in the comment section of why you are canceling. Guess I'll wait to see how they respond.

They are automatically dumping people (like me) to a Premium Site plan which isn't even shown on that page.

No, because back in September just a week before my payment was to expire (I pay yearly), purchased a year long plan again. The price for the business site had gone up by $50 for the year, but was still far less than that amount they told me in an email. I have had a business site since 2021 and have had a paid site since 2016.

Hmm, I was going to do this but didn't want to risk them "correcting" it by charging my card the difference of the new price. I even called customer support and asked them what would happen if I did this since it was allowing an annual renewal at the old price and they said it would not work out for me.

Instead I paid one month at the old price which worked but the following month (October) the amount charged was the new $79 USD for the month.

I have decided to cut ties with Weebly / Square because of the massive price increase and poor communication / advertising of the new pricing.

My website went up by $50 for the year, but that is doable so I grabbed it before they decided to up it even higher.

I got the same e-mail.  I also have a Weebly Business plan.

Have you found out anything more about this?

I have not checked with support. We moved recently and I just got busy. But I haven't heard anything more about this. I don't think I have received any more emails on this either. I really need to contact support and let them know, tho. But here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing when I log into my website. I clicked upgrade just to see what they are offering.  So far, I still have the business plan. No mention about it being cancelled, at least not on the website. I would think if it was true, It would be directly on the website where I pay the bill.

Did you contact them by chance or respond to the email?

New update. My next weebly payment was due on the 6th. This morning I checked my account and indeed the price was raised. It is now $79 for the business plan. I made a choice to cancel. Now I'm back to using their free version. Right now it's still showing the domain name I bought. It's paid thru to April, 25th 2025. But it says in the plan description that I will lose my domain. How long does it take to go back to the free domain version? If that makes sense? Are you staying with the free version? Will you be looking for other platforms. Thanks. I hope you're having a good day.

Just chatted with a Weebly/Square rep. Apparently the subscription prices are going up astronomically. He recommends waiting until the renewal date of your sub (ours is in 4 wks time), cancelling the subscription, then applying for one of the new options.  He assures us that our website won't disappear when we cancel.

I got the same email today that you did in May. How did it turn out?  As you saw their website, there is no mention of our Business Plan, nor is there a mention of the Premium Site plan. I sent an email to day to Support. I was just wondering how things happened to you, since your plan renewal was a couple months ago. Mine is mid-Aug.

Here's a screenshot of what I see on my Weebly account when I click on 'upgrade'. I normally pay by the year, but unable to do so at the moment, so I've been paying monthly the last 2 months. Still the same. I pay for the 'business' plan.

I got my email response today. I followed the instructions - which amounted to clicking on that UPDATE link. And I saw the same thing you did - just 2 Business Plan levels.  The next instruction was to go to the 'Next Page' to look at other options. However, there was no 'Next Page' button/link. I have sent a reply to them requesting clarification on these issues. I will copy their response below.

>>   My name is Eduardo from Square Ecom/Weebly Customer Success. Thank you so much for contacting us. I hope you are having a great Wednesday. I totally understand how important it is for you to see the whole plan pricing we have for you and the features for each one. Let me help with that.

Due to the new plan pricing, some plans were removed and our customers were upgraded to the next plan available. I totally understand you need to compare the plans we have available for you. In this case, log in to your account, then go to your online dashboard, then in the left panel select the second site under the free plan, and finally click on the upgrade button (top right corner).

This will display the checkout sections with all the plans and features we can offer you.

Keep in mind to see our service plans and pricing information, log in to your account and select the Upgrade link in your site dashboard or site editor. On the next page, scroll down to see the feature list for each plan a...

What we were advised to do was to cancel our Weebly business plan (not the account), wait a couple of days and then select from the current Weebly plans. We nearly got suckered into a Square plan, which would have meant rebuilding our website from scratch. Apparently the Sq editing platform is not nearly as good as Weebly, not to mention the fact that I would hate to rebuild what I have worked on for years. We are now on the Weebly Pro plan, which I seem to remember is $16/month if you pay monthly, or $12 monthly if you pay annually. Hope this helps.

Hi Virginia...   I agree with you about not wanting to completely rebuild your site !!  And I thing the Weebly platform is a better editor.   Weebly wants to move me to Premium @ $864/yr.. that is a large jump fm $300.  We use the eCommerce functions so our members can register for our annual conference, and our advertisers can buy their ads in our newsletters.  But when I follow their directions I don't even get any choices to look at.  I sent a reply back to Eduardo and am waiting on his reply.

Yes, that was our frustration also. Apparently you have to cancel out of your current discontinued plan before you can see the options. The Pro plan covered all our needs including having a store, but you may need the next level up.

I encourage you to do what we were advised to do: cancel your plan before it expires. Wait a few days and then you can access all the plans, which include the Pro plan that I have signed up for ($16/month). You can also compare it with the other plans available and see if this will work for you. If you find a workable one that's less than $864/yr then get someone on CHAT and say you want to switch to the plan you've found. If you have a balance left on your old business plan, they will credit you with it. Of course they are trying to make it as difficult as possible, because, hey, $864 vs $300 is lots of lovely money in their pockets. Good luck!
