No longer able to sms message my clients?
I’ve used square for over 6 years and now I am unable to SMS message my clients. I pay for appointments plus as well, which previously included messages- not that I used it. I’ve always used to SMS option, and now my only option is to copy phone number or be prompted to subscribe for messages and pay an additional 10 dollars a month.
since the last update my ability to SMS message my clients has been stripped, though I’ve checked other suite owners who use square here and they are still able to sms their guests- therefore I know it’s not an even rollout change.
Square already got 2.6-3 percent of all my sales. Then they made it worst by wanting an additional 30 bucks a month for features I always had an didn’t make the app better. Now they want an additional 10 dollars for me to message my guests simple things like “hey do you want coffee” before their appointment? I was on the phone with customer service for over an hour. At that time it started out with them not knowing why I couldn’t message my guests anymore but could sign up for messages. Finally confirming that yes I’ve always been able to message my guests for the past 6 years and yes they have changed it without notice. Having a script to try and get an additional 10 dollars a month out of me?
if this doesn’t get fixed and put back I will be leaving for glossgenius. This is simply unacceptable greed or a gross oversight on people making decisions.

Unfortunately, you must be subscribed to Messaging Plus to initiate a conversation with a customer. With Messaging Free, you can reply to a customer after they have started a conversation with you.
More than likely Square had to look at the cost of allowing the service and reassess what should be free vs not free. You do get a lot of features with Messaging Plus like:
A unique toll-free phone number for texting
Unlimited messaging over text and email
A voicemail inbox with voice transcription
You can send coupons to individual customers
The ability to send files via email to individual customers
Since Appointments Plus includes custom text notifications, perhaps make a nice greeting that says "Hey [customer], you have an appointment soon, if you'd like to grab a cup of coffee beforehand, shoot me a text at [phone number], can't wait to see you!"
I don't have intimate knowledge of the other product you mentioned, but after looking over it and reading through the learning center, I found that the functionality of opening dialogues with customers is not available. You will only be able to send slightly customized automated appointment notifications.
