Is Your Flat Tyre/Tire Fix Outdated? Check Your Emergency Repair Kit's Expiry Date!

We've all been there: stuck on the side of the road with a deflated tire. My van has no spare wheel! Thankfully, many cars come equipped with emergency repair kits that can get you back on your way. But just like any other product, these kits have a shelf life. DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Here's a friendly reminder to check the expiry date on your tyre/tire emergency repair kit!

Most kits contain a sealant and a pump. The sealant can plug small punctures and temporarily inflate the tyre/tire.  However, expired sealant might not be effective, leaving you stranded.

Here's how to find the expiry date:

  • Locate your emergency repair kit, usually stored in the boot/trunk or under the floor or passenger/ drivers seat.
  • The expiry date is typically printed on the sealant container or the kit's instructions.

What to do if your kit is expired:

  • Replace it! New kits are readily available at auto parts stores or online retailers. In the Uk they are about £10 - CHECK THE WEIGHT OF YOUR VEHICLE
  • Consider the type of kit you purchase. Some sealants can damage the tire, making a permanent repair difficult.

Bonus Tip: While some kits come with a pressure gauge, it's a good idea to carry a separate one to ensure proper inflation after using the sealant.

By taking a few minutes to check your emergency repair kit, you can be sure you're prepared for a flat tyre/tire situation. Don't let a small oversight leave you in a big bind! & unable to deliver locally

This is such a good call out @Twiggy! Definitely wouldn't be a great situation if you're caught trying to deliver but can't because of a flat.

As a new post? I think it fits for this board for retail deliveries!

Glad to see I'm not the only driver who thinks about this, though now I'm reminded that I probably need to replace all of the tires on my car...
