How to change personal name not business name?

I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.

Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.

 

Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

This is exactly what I am talking about. What a way to insult this situation even more, plaster the deadname ALL OVER THE APP so it stares at you each time and give you absolutely no way to change it. This is ridiculous.

With all of Square's feature upgrades, this is STILL an issue?? I got married. I have a legal name change. I've gone on with the "can't change your name" crap for five years. Surely, they've figured out a way to do this by now?? Obviously not. So, I decided to bite the bullet and create a new account to finally be done with the madness. Nope. That doesn't fix the situation because apparently, you can't have two accounts with the same EIN??

I was recently married and need to change my personal name on my account. I see that that cannot be done, but if a create a new account will that mean I have to have a new web page. My Customers are already used to valeries-vibrant-vogue.square.site, how will I keep my store URL? I will also have to reload all of my inventory!!!

Thanks for writing in, and welcome to the seller community, we love seeing new members here 👋 Stepping in for EJ and Helen here. 

 

You can import your inventory across between accounts through these steps. If you'd like to use the same url on a new site, you'd have to change it on your current website to free it up - this is something support can help with, too if you're stuck. Get in touch here. Keep in mind that your activation name isn't public facing, so customers won't be able to see your name. 

@Arie Oh yes it is. Square appointments users are screwed! Also they keep deadnaming you ALL OVER THE ENTIRE APP! If you won’t let us change it at least let us use a nickname on the app!! 

Can't believe that almost 5 years later this still has not been addressed. I got married after opening my accounts and really desperately need to change my name so that when I get paid it's all legal and good. I don't want to have to worry about trying to prove I am who I am every time. Please someone tell me this is actually going to be fixed and really soon.

@overflowfineart Good luck. They really really must not care about this feature at all. It's very ridiculous, and they will keep deadnaming their customers, and again, not care. They will keep throwing around your dead name ALL OVER THE APP and even send you mail with the dead name on it, because they don't care! How is that for a "progressive" company that values LGBT and everything? 

I am transgender and find it awful to be constantly reminded of my deadname. In addition, my employees regularly access my Square dashboard and this app OUTS me to my employees. I do NOT want them to know my deadname, but now they all do, and are constantly reminded of it anytime they log in to access invoices, etc.

Is there seriously nothing that we can do to change or hide that name!?

Is Square just not progressive at all? Do they not understand how harmful this is to the Transgender community??

This is incredibly harmful to the Trans community and, frankly, is appalling that it hasn't been addressed.

Please allow me (and others like me) to change my legal name.

Or introduce a nickname feature so it stops deadnaming me to my employees who regularly access Square Dashboard for invoices, etc.

They see "Hello, DEADNAME" every time they access my account. That makes me feel awful!

Again, this is HARMFUL. You are hurting people by not allowing this change. It is not a "convenience" issue, this needs to be addressed ASAP.

I've built my entire business around Square and the idea of having to rebuild everything from the ground up JUST TO CHANGE MY NAME is so incredibly disappointing, disgusting, and again HARMFUL.

Do you intend to hurt the Transgender community? Is that your goal? Because it sure feels like it.

HI, to change a name or business name requires the owner to contact Square directly.  Yes, you can change it within your account and everywhere you have access to, but on Square's dashboard, will be the name at original signup, this is the policy for all Square sellers.

You will get a few options to contact, click Call Us, a new browser window will open with phone number and customer code.

 

You must be logged into your account and is best on a laptop or desktop.  Phone app sometimes displays unavailable at times.
