How to change personal name not business name?

I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.

Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.

 

Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

Square is pushing their banking option hard, but 1000's of their users can't even correct their Account Owners names. Hey Square, YEARS of comments and complaints on this issue, and you STILL HAVEN'T FIXED IT.

@EJ_ Well, so much for not being public facing in any way. I just bought a Square Terminal and was so excited to use it, of course like any other new technology item, I decided, well, I gotta play with it. So I started printing a bunch of receipts. Lo and behold, to my dismay, my dead name is right there on all the receipts, because the transactions were taken with virtual terminal.

 

Then in appointments, the staff members are now showing up with my deadname. 

 

I click on the dashboard to browse compatible Square apps, and again, top right corner, shows up my dead name. I am so disappointed, Square! If you can't let us change the activation name, then stop putting it everywhere for me to see every time I click around Square's dashboard too! 

 

Deleting and restarting my account is not an option, I use Square loans, Square appointments, and too many Square services that depend on seniority to be able to properly use. For heaven's sake, the TSA was able to get my name updated in 3 days. That's the TSA too! YES, THAT SAME TSA, THE AIRPORT PEOPLE! 

 

Also, they won't even let me change the name for the checking account. I am not going to use a Square checking account with my dead name on it. That name is very insulting to me. 

Everything I have tried even contacting customer service they said there is no way to change personal name. What makes me mad is that the EIN is in my name. I was told the only way to change name is close account and reopen.

Hi @sillyme65 - Thank you for reaching out. 

 

Looks like the information that you received was accurate. The activation name can not be changed. However, if you need to update the tax payer information you can do so on your Square Dashboard. 

 

Account & Settings> Business> Tax Forms> Edit

 

 

@Ria or @EJ_  can you please explain as to WHY we are unable to change our new legal last name if it can be done legally for government purposes? such BIG glitch in the system for a minor issue that could be easily resolved for a company of your stature. It's hard to understand why when other financial and government institutions are able to. It's very frustrating when you're the only employee and can't change owner name.

With the new update when checking clients out it shows my full name for absolutely no reason! Very frustrating!

I can see that we don't have the option to change our business owner.  I am with a non-profit and we don't have an owner.  We put on a plant sale every year and started doing it online in 2020.  The account was put in the treasurer's name.  We set up a new email address that each treasurer each year will be able to access.  But the first treasurer is on the account although he isn't involved and we don't want him to have access to everything that's going on.  Since his name is on the account he feels he needs to be involved.  We thought we could put a new name on it as the treasurer changed.  So, if I have to start all over every 2 years, how do I get the item list that contains plant descriptions and photos into the new account?
