I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.
Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.
Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.
It is so unfortunate you can't change your business' owner's name on square. We are considering moving our services to First Data since this is not working for us, plus the rates are way too high when paying invoicing and credit card charges. As of 1/15/18 it hasn’t changed. 😕 very upsetting

How is it that every other legal account known to man can update my legal name after being married but Square cant?? Please make this a priority to get fixed. This is causing incredible confusion among my clients.
This is unaccetable!! There should be no reason at all that people can not change their name. Take in consideration and respect in this matter. This should NOT be, "if we get enough request we will do something about this". Take a moment and stop thinking about how to make your next buck and think about compasion for those who have been in servally abusive relations that finally got out and now have to see a name that haunts them on Square because you dont have a way of changing that. Or how about that person who views their marriage day the happiest day of their life and would like to see their new name, or maybe they came from a serverally abusive childhood and would love to leave their old name behind. This is a basic function, thousands of peoples names change daily and honestly I am extreamly disappointed. If I have to create a whole new account, for a name change, why on earth would I continue to use Square? This is almost laughable if it wasnt so annoying.
No. I don’t need to transfer ownwership to a different person. I’ve been divorced for over a year now. As the owner of my company I should be allowed to verify ownership and name change through my valid state ID and proper documentation to proof my 100% legal name change. I have a court decree. Why is it so hard for you to provide the choice to change our name? The problem is that in 2019 tax reports my name will be wrong because of Square’s negligence to allow us to change our names. PayPal allows ways to legally approve the owner’s name change. You will miss me and many others due to your negligence. I’ll go back to PayPal. This is really ridiculous 😕
@wowconnections I'm very sorry for the frustration. We are working on a solution for sellers to help them change their Account Name - but we're not there yet. We'll share any updates here and hopefully you'll consider returning to Square in future.
