Feature Request: Support selecting the same modifier more than once

Feature Request: Support selecting the same modifier more than once

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Can I select the same modifier more than once?

Is there a way to select 1 modifier twice? For example, I have an item named '3 TACOS', once the item has been selected on the app, the cashier can choose the meats as modifiers: steak, fish, tofu, etc. However, sometimes guests want 2 steak and 1 fish for example. How can I make this happen?

Hey! Thanks for reaching out! At this time, the ability to add multiple of the same item modifier (for example, to add a second pump of chocolate sauce to a single ice cream sundae) is not available.

In the meantime as a possible workaround, you can create an item modifier that accounts for the double portion (and the difference in cost), so that you can charge the right price every time. (As in the earlier example, create a modifier for two pumps of extra chocolate sauce.)

A lot of sellers will basically call the modifier: Modifier option 1 and Modifier option 2, with the exact same options (say chocolate pumps), so that the same modifier can be essentially chosen twice for the same order. The modifiers will print on separate line items and the seller can have double of one side. See the screenshots below from my Demo account for an example where I make two different Sugar modifiers, but have the same modifier options in both.

I then apply both of those modifiers to whichever item I need to allow a possible duplicate option for:

When you are in the check out screen, you will see both modifiers. By forcing the customers to choose one from each, you will ensure both platters will have an option assigned.

I hope this makes sense, but please let me know if I need to clarify anything!

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Is it possible to select a quanity of a selected modifier

I am setting up an online ordering system.  I would like a customer to be able to choose how many of each modifier they would like.  I sell items (donuts, muffins, etc) by the dozen, how can I have a customer select the variety within the dozen?
For example:

The item is a dozen donuts

I have 8 different glazing's available,

What would be the best way for a customer to select 4 maple donuts, 6 chocolate donuts and 2 pumpkins donuts

I definitely understand how this feature would be useful, as when I buy donuts in-person, I'm typically able to ask for multiples of a single flavor of a donut within my dozen. While it isn't currently possible to allow customers to select more than one of the same modifier, I've moved your post over to this thread where others have expressed interest in this feature.

I'd recommend taking a look at the workaround provided by @Helen on the first page of this thread. We'll be sure to let you know if anything changes - stay subscribed to this thread to be notified when an update is posted, @MichiganFarmsta!

There are also a few ideas on this thread about bagels

Hope one of them helps, sorry there's no solid way to do it yet.

I also agree that having a Quantity option for Modifiers would be huge! Hopefully they'll make it happen one day

Sundae toppings have 3 required modifiers, but if someone wants 2 of the same thing and 1 of another.  How can this be done?

@Icecreamlover

Currently selecting the same modifier multiple times is not supported with Square's POS. You're not the only one looking for this feature so I've moved you to this thread to read through the current workarounds suggested by other sellers. Also merging your post makes it easier for the Product Team to track all Sellers with the same thing.

We'll let you know here when we have something new to share.

We are running into the same issue. We have quite a few add ons and modifiers. Now that we are accepting a lot more online orders this is very confusing to our customers. Hope an update is coming soon 🙂

Hey @G-Dog!

We'll definitely post an update in this thread when we have one regarding the status of this feature request.

Thanks for resurfacing!

I have an item which has 14 options.(modifiers) .

Its a birthday kit for 60.00 . There are 14 options for the customer to choose from.  They get 5 kits for 60.00.  The problem Im having is allowing the customer to pick 2 or more of one kit ? so if someone wants 3 monkey kits and 2 unicorn to make the sum of 5 kits.  Right now  It only allows the customer to select 1 of each until the sum reaches 5,

Please help !

Hey @Mgreelish and welcome to the Seller Community! I've merged your post with an existing thread that answers your question, even if you don't have a Square for Restaurants subscription as the solution is still the same.

Since I imagine creating 14 duplicate modifiers for your customers isn't an ideal situation, you may want to consider adding to your existing modifier set to allow customers to choose more than one of the same item. For example, you can have "Monkey x 2," "Monkey x 3." I know that this may really lengthen your modifier set, but it may be worth considering so you don't have duplicate modifiers.

I do hope this helps in some way, but I will also loop in @ryanwanner and @Ron who have both been pretty active before to see if they have any insight or workarounds they may have used. Thank you!
