Feature Request: Square Gift Card and eGift Card redemption via a third-party website

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Can Square gift cards be used in my Wix site?

We use Wix to host our small business website and just upgraded to their online store functionality becuase it gave us the ability to customize and look like a cohesive party of our website.

We are still using Square to process our payments. We were wondering if Square gift cards and discount codes can still be redeemed on our website?

We've been really happy with our service with Square but really need more customization for selling our classes. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks for the info. I have been using square at our physical store for a while so having 2 different gift cards and trying to explain to customers where and what they can do just isn't an option. I wonder if square is holding back on this option in order to move businesses to pay a monthly fee for online shipping orders through Weebly.

Fair point, it's certainly frustrating - and especially so 'in person'.

Hey all! Here's a gift card update. The original API Square released was SUPER basic and very confusing to all our developers - not to mention very complicated, but they've just given us exclusive access to some brand new APIs, which should make it possible and easier to finish a variety of custom integrations that we can use to give people all kinds of easy to use Gift Card redemption and checkout features.

If you'd like to test what we have now to understand how close we are, please DM us or email us at preorderforsquare@gmail.com

Just to give you an idea - one of the "solutions" we're working on will allow you to connect your Square Account in 10 seconds, then have your own Redeem Gift Card page that you can link where ever you want (or an IFRAME). We're also working on super simple custom "Shops" just in case you need to list all your products, menu items, etc. so Customers can use their Gift Cards for purchases.

Please let us know what all products (from Square) you are using and how we can design this to work best for each one of you. As you know, we can't just make something that you can stick inside a Square-Weebly website, but we can make something you can link to a Menu Link ON a Square-Weebly website.

Thanks!

Your right. Gift cards are often purchased in stores and then used online. Adding this to the Woocommerce plugin is important. Especially during the pandemic.

Most us here want gift cards that will work with both Square and Woocommerce. The reason is pretty simple; Square is everywhere. Wordpress is everywhere.

Hi. We're almost done with it - as a WooCommerce Plugin and a stand alone feature that can be added to any website. It was pretty challenging because Square literally JUST released the APIs on it. We actually had to get into a very private and exclusive ALPHA program of Square's to get access to more APIs that made it possible to complete and finish.

Send us a DM with your email and we'll add you to a group email we've got going where we give updates and testing links.

Thanks!

I use square to accept payments at farmers markets and have a wix site for online retail. A while back I added a square gift card to me wix site.  Recently someone purchased the  gift card and I just realized they may not be able to use it on the wix site.  Old threads from 2018 I saw confirm this.  But that was a while back, has this changed?

Hi @STEAP and welcome to the Community.

I moved your post to a thread where this question has been answered already.

Check out the Best Answer above for details.

Nothing has changed on this since our Gift Cards can only be used with our Point of Sale system and Online Store. They don't work with third parties.

I see this question appears to have been asked yearly since at least 2016 based on a quick search.  Every time, the answer has been "we cannot accept gift cards through our woocommerce payment processing plugin at this time, but will add this in the future".

When is the future?

Square's online store is not functional enough for my business needs beyond my online store.  I use WooCommerce on Wordpress, and process payments using the Square plugin.  However, if I sell a gift card in store, it cannot be redeemed on my woo-powered site despite Square being the processor.  This is ridiculous.  So gift cards I sell in store are useless online.

The same problem exists the other way - if I use a Woo plugin to add gift card abilities on my website, they can only be used there - a customer cannot walk-in to the store and use the gift card a friend emailed to them.

So I can't offer gift cards, or more precisely, can't offer them without constant questions and complaints from customers who bought one on one medium, and want to redeem it on the other.

When will this be addressed?  When is "in the future"?

We're opening a new business now and I really want to use Square, but for the first time functionality is pushing us away instead of drawing us in like normal.

Has anyone had success? We have NCR in our farm market but square was by far the better choice for on our farm with Mobile checkouts. We would like to buy square gift cards and be able to have them also used with our NCR Counterpoint in our market.  (Yes, we will eventually have all 1 system but as of now NCR surpasses square for the demand of our market over square).

Any advice?

I would like to request this as a feature as other gift cards work across different processors why can't squares?
