Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Gift bag options or bundles is a feature request we're currently tracking. I merged you to a relevant thread. Feel free to tag some of those sellers to see if they adopted a workaround for the meantime.

@VarsitySpa

We are using Square for retail to run our concession stand. I want to start keeping track of inventory on certain items. One thing is hamburger patties. If I sell a hamburger, that's no problem. One item we have is a double cheeseburger. How can I come up with a way of having 2 patties deducted from my inventory with one sale?

I am adding +1 request to this feature. I've been wanting it for years now, still wanting it. I have specific items I sell together as a set, currently I have an automatic discount set up to apply when those items are added to the cart but some of the sets have 10+ items in them (not to mention it messes with other automatic discounts I have set up), and it gets frustrating and time consuming to add each item individually. Having an "item set" item that would automatically keep track of inventory for each item individually when I add the set would save a ton of time and would be much less confusing for my assistants who aren't as used to the Square app as I am when they have to cover a sale for me. I'd love to see this feature implemented sooner than later!

How did you add the "combo button" and made the functionality of the button negative creating the discount?

This is not currently possible, as tracking inventory on ingredients used to make up an item is a limitation at this time.

This would be a feature request at this time, so I've moved your post to this thread where others have asked for the same capability. We'll be sure to drop an update into this thread if this changes in the future, so stay subscribed to this thread.

One thing you could do is create an item called Patty with inventory tracking turned on - at a $0 price - and train your cashiers to add the correct # of patties according the the type of burger ordered (IE. single or double). Alternatively, it looks like @eron suggested some third-party integrations that may meet your needs, @Sparkys!

STILL waiting on the ability to create bundles. For example: I want my customers to pay a set cost for a bundle called "Dinosaur Pack" which I then choose dinosaur items for them out of my inventory, assemble and deliver it. I need the item quantity to be decreased in my Square for Retail inventory, with the cost applied to the sale.

Thanks for adding your voice ere in support of this Feature Request, @SmartyPantsJane! Hopefully we can bring some productive updates concerning this for you here in the future. As soon as we do, we will reach back out to everyone here and update accordingly.

The fact that this remains unavailable for online stores is unacceptable.  We pay for advanced inventory tracking which doesn't have the ability to track inventory.  Explain to me how or why that is ok?  I continue to need to offer discounts on groups.  For instance, we sell 10 for a 10% discount.  You have zero method to handle this currently without manual adjustment.  The reason for advanced inventory tracking that I PAY for is to eliminate manual tracking.  But your solution is a manual adjustment.  Unacceptable!

Square, please hurry on this feature! This lack of functionality is one of the only things that we REALLY struggle with on an ongoing basis for our businesses.  While I am a big fan of yours, our business NEEDS this option to compete and we're looking to you for help.  It's been many years that we've been waiting and we need it now, more than ever.  Please don't let us down and in the position to searching for alternatives. Thank you!
