Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

I use Discounts to have bundles applied.

Example: I sell Wax Bars. Individually they are $8, buy 3 save $1, Buy 5 get a 6th Free. I have a category called "Wax Bars" and each scent is it's own item w/ SKU code.

I use Automatic Discount with the rules: "When customer purchases any 5 items from Category: Wax Bars Apply $8 discount to 1 additional item of equal or lesser value from Category: Wax Bars"

For 3 packs it is "When customer purchases any 2 items from Category: Wax Bars" Apply $1 discount to 1 additional item of equal or lesser value from Category: Wax Bars"

Hope that helps!

Oh I would LOVE that! I often create bundles and have to manually scan/type each item in. This would save SO much time!!

Welcome! Now can you make it auto apply online for me tooo? 😆

While this can still be improved from square with perhaps another item attribute that links to discounts, until then these are the approaches I've tried:

Automatic Discount

Item: Sandwich ($4.99, $2.99, $4.99, $2.99)

Variations: Whole, Half, Whole with Soup, Half with Soup

Item: Soup ($2.99/4.99)

Variations: Cup, Bowl

Discounts: Automatic Discount Rule: When customer purchases any from: Whole or Half with Soup = -$2.00

The customer should select the combo with soup on the sandwich, and then go select a soup item.  Either size (cup/bowl) will add the discount because it is tied to the sandwich.

Positive:

Both items are tracked on reports and inventory.

Both item's modifiers are all selectable.

The discount is shown on the receipt for the customer to see.

Negative:

Customer may not select the soup and get a discount on their sandwich for online orders, requiring follow up.

-------------------------

Modifier + Note

Item: Sandwich ($4.99, $2.99)

Variations: Whole, Half

Modifiers: Add Cup of Soup +.99, Add Bowl of Soup +2.99

The customer selects the sandwich item and size, then adds the modifier if wants soup.

Then in the notes, they have to say which soup they want (tomato/etc) if there are a lot of choices for the soup type.

Positive:

Selection to make it a combo is on same screen as modifier, so people who may not have thought of it will then see it and may order it.

The generic modifier of "type" of combo item, with note to then specify allows a lot of options to not take up much space on the item screen.

Negative:

Customer may not type in notes which soup, requiring follow up.

Soup type is not tracked on inventory, nor in modifier report as it will only show generic size selected, not the type.

Modifiers for the add-on combo item are not shown.

-------------------------

All Modifiers

Item: Sandwich ($4.99, $2.99)

Variations: Whole, Half

Modifiers: Add Cup of Tomato Soup +.99, Add Bowl of Tomato Soup +2.99, Add Cup of Potato Soup +.99, Add Bowl of Potato Soup +2.99.

The customer selects the sandwich item and size, then adds the modifier of the soup type.

Positive:

No entry error can happen from not specifying the side, or forgetting to.

Multiple items that allow that side are changed from the single modifier place.

Negative:

Can't have a lot of options without filling up the check out screen.

Soup type is not tracked on inventory, but is in modifiers report.

Modifiers for the add-on combo item are not shown.

-------------------------

New Combo Item with Modifiers

Item: Sandwich and Soup ($5.98, $3.98, $7.98, $5.98)

Variations: Whole with Bowl, Whole with Cup, Half with Bowl, Half with Cup

Modifiers:

Combo Sandwich (Select 1, Required): BLT, Turkey, Ham&Cheese, Meatball, etc

Combo Soup (Select 1, Required): Tomato, Chicken Noodle, etc

The customer selects this item, then has to choose the two options.

Positive:

Customer cannot mess up ordering this.

Can show both sets of modifiers on the single item.

Negative:

Sandwich and Soup items are not tracked on inventory, but in modifiers report. (Not a big deal in some circumstances, to get overall sales of an item you have to combine the modifiers with the item sales when not the combo).

-------------------------

New Combo Item with Variations

Item: Combo Sandwich and Soup

Variations:

Whole Ham Sandwich with Bowl of Tomato Soup

Whole Ham Sandwich with Bowl of Potato Soup

Whole Ham Sandwich with Cup of Tomato Soup

Whole Ham Sandwich with Cup of Potato Soup

Half Ham Sandwich with Bowl of Tomato Soup

Half Ham Sandwich with Bowl of Potato Soup

Half Ham Sandwich with Cup of Tomato Soup

Half Ham Sandwich with Cup of Potato Soup

....... etc

The customer selects the item that denotes their choices of sandwich and soup.

Positive:

Customer cannot mess up ordering this.

Modifiers from both items can be shown on this item.

Negative:

Items are not tracked individually so you would still need to add up the individual item sales and these manually.

List gets ridiculous with the more options you have.

If perhaps you only had one size of serving of both items it would be okay, but for us it gets out of hand with 8 sandwiches and a few soups with size options.

You could reduce options by having modifier to "upgrade to whole sandwhich +$" and "upgrade to bowl of soup +$" to reduce the amount, but you would still have # of sandwiches X # of soups for options.

For us it's 32 without sizes in variations, and 128 with sizes in variations.

Hi,

I wasn't able to find an answer about the original question.

Does inventory management include deducting multiple items from inventory when one item is sold?

If I have hamburgers, bread, cheese and ketchup in my inventory and then sell a cheeseburger; will the cheeseburger sale deduct from all four individual items?

Does square have this feature do I need to use a plug in like peach works

Thanks!

Yes please! I have a bulk food store and do a lot of snack baskets at Christmas time

Thank you for posting this. You're number 1 work around will work for me for now. 😀

I also thought I saw this option was going to be available on Square for Retail Plus in a release update late last year from Square. I specifically signed up for retail plus in anticipation because we desperately need this feature. I haven't heard or seen anything further on it. Did you ever get an answer or update from Square?

Is there a way to have an Item "Gift Bag" that would allow the customer to select items from multiple categories. There are a total of 5 different categories that we want customers to be able to select one item from each category.

What I'm thinking they select The Gift Bag, the see the 5 categories and select one item from each. Is that something that is doable and if so how do I do it. I'm looking to do this for Square online and the point of sale.
