Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

I'd like to add my support for this feature in Retail. It is a basic retail function, and it seems a little nuts to me that Square doesn't already have this option. I'm in the 30 day trial phase and actively looking for a better solution. Selling mixed packs of different wines is a key part of my business along with wine clubs. Tracking those will be a nightmare without.

Thanks for bringing up this issue again. Unfortunately I & others originally posed the question several years ago (2016? 17?) and we still don’t have progress or answers from Square. It’s quite frustrating.  As far as I can tell, only Shopify currently offers the feature. Seems like it could easily be more widespread.

If you go to the Square App Store and look under inventory you will see an add on for ShopVentory. That allows you to create bundled items and track the items thru individual item inventory. It works very well. Been a couple of years since I used it so don’t recall what cost was but it was fairly inexpensive if I recall. The trick to keeping everything accurate was to make sure you always received inventory via the shopventory system. It pushes inventory updates out to square and then square pushes item sales back out to shopventory

This is exactly the same feature we need! We sell all our plants individually, but I like to create 6 packs and combo packs to have available. If they sell, I have to manually update the inventory.

I am also waiting anxiously for this feature.

We sell arts and craft supplies. In store and online we want to sell kits which contain other items. today we have to manually update inventory when we sell a kit. Ideally the kits would know which items they contain and sell out if any one item is out of stock and selling a kit would update the stock for items.

This is a feature request that we are tracking here in this thread, @RTC. I've moved your post here so that if any we have any news to share in regards to this feature, you'll receive a notification when we add an update here!

No update on this? Nobody wants it?

This is intriguing! Have you had success using Trunk?

Thank you for keeping this issue on the front burner! Our use case is very straight forward - we run a pop-up grocery market and sell pre-order produce bags - managing inventory is HUGE in food market business so really need this feature!

@Downrivermarket @While you can’t currently do a grouped item inventory like it appears you want to in Square itself if you go to the Square App Marketplace and get the ShopVentory add on then it will give you the ability to create group items and track inventory on each separate item. It’s been a few years since I used it so I am not aware of current cost I remember it was very reasonable and they gave you a free trial period so you could make sure it would work for you. It syncs inventory counts to your Square and syncs when you sell in square to ensure inventory is correct. The only catch I noticed was that you needed to make sure that you always entered receiving items into ShopVentory and let it sync into square to ensure it stays accurate
