Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Just want to add my voice to the all the other ones asking for this. It's frustrating to see it's been almost four years and this still isn't an option.

Hi @poorlyformed thank you for taking the time to share. I hear you in your frustration and have pushed your feedback to our development team as well.

Hang in there and please let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a small service restaurant that sells Hot Dogs. We offer many custom options and combos, which is quite difficult to navigate in the Square environment. We've made it work for the POS, and I've had to train employees on how to use it. But it's not ideal.

I'm setting up the online store now, and there's no real good way to do combos for my customers. For example. Customer picks a hot dog. They then want to make it a combo, it's not as easy as putting it as a modifier. It's a separate item.

Ideally. This would go. Customer picks hot dog. There's a modifier options that asks to make it a combo. Based on their response, new modifier options would pop up that would allow them to select what side and beverage they would like. Instead, they would have to know that there is a separate item on the list for combos, and they could pick it at will without even buying a hot dog in the first place.

The other challenge is, let's say they pick a side. Right now it defaults to chips with all of the chip varieties we offer. However, if they pick french fries, the selections for chips doesn't disappear. They could still select something. In theory, that section should disappear if they decide on french fries.

Is there a way to make this work as I've described? Or am I stuck with doing this with separate items?

For those looking to do bundling/kitting but with a third-party solution, please check out Trunk @ https://trunkinventory.com

It connects to Square and can do bundling/kitting. It doesn't work with modifiers yet but if you're able to make each bundle have a SKU, then you're a good fit.

Hey there @FoxDogs,

I moved your post over to board with a similar feature request.

Check out @pessosices 's workaround tips for accomplishing what you're looking for.

I want to sell apples in a 5 lb bag and a 10 lb bag that pulls from the same inventory. If I have 50 lbs of apples, I can't assign an inventory to the 5 lb and 10 lb units because I could sell all 50 lbs in 5 lb units or all 50 lbs in 10 lb units or any combination of the two. Is it possible with Square to manage my inventory this way?

Hey @phantomhill-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community! 🍎

At this time, regular Point of Sale inventory tracking, nor Square for Retail have this feature.

It's a current feature request that our Product Teams are aware of, and will hopefully be launching in the near future. We're tracking this feature request in this thread and will be posting updates regarding the feature request as we receive them. Thank you for taking the time to post this request, as we can see how it would be helpful to many sellers.

My company has been using Square for 2 years now and this was a feature we've needed since day one. Not being able to bundle is a huge revenue and margin drainer for our webstore. It's almost more of a hassle to try and sell online than it is in our store. It prevents us from selling certain products online because we have both labor (non-taxable) and physical products (taxable) that we sell at specific costs when purchased together. It would be nice if there was a way to make a bundle that contains multiple skus at set prices all while being pulled from inventory upon a sale. This seems like it would be a simple addition. Not to mention it would allow Square to capture even more money from us because we could sell more. I also understand that sometimes things aren't always as easy as they may seem. Now if that's the case then Square needs to communicate better or have an open and honest discussion regularly around needed features because if I can't sell accurately and productively through a service I pay for then I'm looking for a new service that can.

Hey @illcfmv thanks so much for explaining this. I agree, this has not only been a popular feature request with Square, but the addition of this feature would also help save sellers a bunch of time during checkout and for inventory management. The benefit of this with the Online Store would also be extremely helpful as it can give buyers more options during checkout.

I currently do not have any extra information to share or any explanation as to what a launch of this would look like, but I hear your frustration and I will continue to push your feedback to our Development Team.

Please please please add this as a feature as soon as possible.  Customers have been asking for this since at least 2016. Every couple months I come back to this same thread to see if anything has been added. It is very frustrating. Our store has been reduced to takeout/delivery only due to COVID-19 and it extremely difficult for us to offer bundle deals and manage our inventory in real time. This is important so we don't have customers purchasing sold out products online. It is a bad experience for customers and will drive them away from our store and/or using our online service. Please make this a priority. It is a big deal for restaurants especially particularly because we could sell out of a product within hours and not have time to manage the inventory manually before someone attempts to purchase it online. Thanks.
