Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Also want to mention that Trunk allows you to build smart bundles/kitting to allow you do this and it integrates with Square! Definitely check out this help article which goes over a few examples: https://help.trunkinventory.com/articles/2217275-creating-smart-bundles-and-kits

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions!

I would like to echo @gresserin request for multiple item inventory function.  We also use Square in a concession like set up and it would be so much easier to be able to account for inventory of a single product used across multiple items.

Want to chime in here that Trunk now integrates with Square that enables you to do bundling/kitting for your inventory and keep everything synced in real-time.

For example if you’re selling pencil bundles, with Trunk's centralized inventory, you would first create a single pencil product. Then you can have your bundles of 25, 50, and 100 depend on this pencil product. These products can then sync with Square by SKU. Selling a 25 bundle will automatically adjust the 50, 100 and so on. You can also adjust inventory from within Trunk. For example, adjusting the single pencil product will automatically adjust and sync the 25, 50, and 100 bundles.

You can read more about this feature and see screenshots here (the first example goes over what I just went over!): https://help.trunkinventory.com/articles/2217275-creating-smart-bundles-and-kits

You can create some really powerful configurations with this feature and also track components that make up your products. There’s also another example in that link above that goes over this.

Trunk has live chat support so feel free to ask questions on the website @ https://trunkinventory.com

I sell product in 5 different sizes of cups. I only need 2 sizes of lids for all sizes of cups. How do you track inventory for lids that are used on several different cups? I have set up inventory on cups and get notifications when they are low. I cannot figure out how to track my lids so I can get alerts for when more stock is needed. I have tried variations, but this adds issues and confusion for staff and customers on receipts. Also, if a variation isn't selected it does not deduct from inventory and you can only select one variation, not all.

We would like to throw our hat in this ring. We would like to sell combo packs that would allow the customer to build a case with as many of each flavor they want to order to fill the 12 pack, or 3 pack, or 4 pack, etc. The system should then decrement inventory levels for each flavor item appropriately. If you could get that done by the end of the week, that would be great. Mkay?

@WarnBitters As an alternative, you can already do this with Trunk which supports bundling/kitting for your Square inventory

Hey @sodanerdy - Thanks for reaching out!

At this time, Square's system does not allow inventory tracking for supplies on a level that granular - although I understand how this feature is beneficial in knowing when you need to re-up your cup lids.

The best workaround for this is creating each size as separate items, price them at $0, then add them with your customer's drink order. However, this may get a bit clumsy during checkout and creates room for error if your cashier forgets to add it to the sale.

I've parked your post in this thread to join the other sellers with the same question. That way, our Inventory Team can better track everyone that's requesting this feature. We'll loop here when we hear more!

Thanks for the reply @JustinC. I'm no programmer, but it seems that it would be useful to have an "if this, than that" feature in Square. There are so many specific ideas from the community, I wonder how the development team keeps up with it all. Maybe it's my naivety, but an IFTTT feature based on products, discounts, modifiers, etc could be a solution for a number of specific requests such as bundling, or multi-item discounts. Like I said, I'm no programmer so I'll patiently wait for someone to tell me this idea won't work. Since I'm paying more fees, maybe some of it can be put towards a solution. 😂 I kid, I kid.

😂 I hear ya @sodanerdy -  an IFTTT feature seems super convenient and makes inventory tracking more robust and streamline.

And you're right - lots of specific Feature Requests pass by the Product Team's desk, but they are amazing at tracking all of them so your request definitely won't go unseen. The reality about these requests is some are easy to implement while others take some time.

We're always improving our products based off ideas like yours so stick with us! We'll be sure to loop here if we hear any new developments!

We’re adding food at our pub and need to manage inventory at the ingredient level based on a recipe. For example, when we sell a ham sandwich I would like inventory to be reduced by two pieces of bread, one piece of cheese, and X ounces of ham. Is that possible with the restaurant version?
