Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Hi - has there been any progress on this feature request?

Admin

Sorry to say that we don't have an update on this feature request @gresserin. Really appreciate you checking back in.

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: How to setup a combo package pricing or discount?

Hello,

We are selling mains and sides dishes as separate items but there is a combo option of buying one main and two sides - gives you one of those sides for free. I wanted to setup a discount where an item would be free. For example the menu would be three main dishes and three sides. You can purhcase each main and side separately or one main and two sides as a combo and you would get the side for free.

What I have done is make a "Combo Discount" button so the order process will be to add the three items and then click the "Combo Discount" button to deduct $3 from the total. Wanted to make sure I didn't miss a faster way to do this.

Menu

Main - $7

Side - $3

Combo - $10

@NeliasKitchen

Definitely the way I would set it up with the current system.  Hoping another restaurant owner will chime in, but yes.. that should be your best option.

Hi!  I have seen threads in the past discussing the need for bundling and combos.  For example, if you buy x, y, and z-- apply discount.  Or, a bundle feature would be even better.

I use Square POS for a quick serve restaurant, not having a bundling feature is a major drawback.  For example--the ability to bundle a hamburger, side item, and drink--for a discounted price than if purchased separately (a common thing in the restaurant and retail real alike).

A properly configured bundle would also be very helpful for order ticket printing.  For now, we have an item called combo, with modifiers for different options.  This functions, but doesn't allow effecient tracking since the sides and drinks are modifiers rather than items.  Additionally, this doesn't display well to the kitchen (not bolded, and kitchen doesn't need to know drink).

Square, is this something that is in the works?  I want to continue to use your POS and payroll. However, this makes it hard for us to grow our combo sales without this feature.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Thank you!

I agree this would be a nice feature and a timesaver as well.

Own a bar and when I sell a bucket of 5 beers at a reduced price per bottle, we have to use a price variation, then adjust quantity to 5 (hoping the staff always remembers to do that).  Currently requires some extra steps and makes the inventory a little messy.

It would be very handy to have this for our bakery.  Where the price would automatically reduce when someone orders a half dozen donuts, or a dozen.  Instead each transaction add time because we have to manually select the proper price points.

Hey @VBGController @MichiganFarmsta!

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback and to let us know how this would be beneficial for your businesses.

We'll make sure the Product team has eyes on this and hopefully this is something we can implement in the future!

Thanks for your post @TheShakery. You're right, a 'bundle' or 'combo' feature has been a really popular feature request and we're still working on the right solution. Did see that we posted about Quantity-Based Auto Discounts this week in the Community? Take a look at that post and if you're interested reply on that thread to let elaine_p know!

Happy to announce that Trunk now integrates with Square and allows you to build smart bundles/kitting to allow you to group inventory together like this! Definitely check out this help article which describes a few examples: https://help.trunkinventory.com/articles/2217275-creating-smart-bundles-and-kits
