Feature Request: Tips on services only with Square Appointments

Feature Request: Tips on services only with Square Appointments

I am a hairstylist and have a small studio suite. Why does tip calculate on total rather than just the service amount. Last night when checking someone out who had services, retail plus taxes it calculated the tip off everything not just the service. This makes no sense and it needs to be fixed. Please help.

I don't have anything new to report around this, but I can see how it would help for businesses that sell items as well as services that deserve a tip.

If anything new comes along, I'll post an update here.

I own a small studio salon and selling product to our guests in addition the service they have received is a daily occurance.  When the client has the option of tipping and they are buying product, if they choose a percentage amount, the tip goes off of the entire purchase (service AND products being sold).  Is there a way for square to realize that the tip should only be on the service total not the combined total?

That is not currently an option when using automatic percentages for tipping.  We don't use tipping in our business, but I can see how tipping only on services rendered would be a useful option.

You can post a new thread with "Feature Request Tips on services only" title and people can chime in on it and square employees can see the request.

Great Suggestion,  You can adjust the tip calculation so it calculates before tax and not affter.  Goto Menu/settings/tipping.  And select the calculate tip method.

I have it set to calculate before taxes and it still calculates the tip according to service and retail when it should be only applied to services because retail is taxed. Is there something I'm missing. Last night total service ($140) with retail (83) and tax (5.91). It calculated the tip according to what the service and retail was. My client was very confused and had to have me calculate a tip for service of 140.

currently, there isn't a setting to do that.  In a lot of locations, they are collecting tips on retail like a restaurant etc..

I am struggling with the same issue. We have a cafe and large retail assortment. We have completely turned off tipping so we do not confuse our customers. But many dont appreciate it. Being able to select the category that tips could calculate on would be super helpful. And it would keep the in store experience streamlined and uncomplicated. Thanks

Feature Request on Tipping:

It would be a very helpful feature to be able to have tipping percentages reflect only services instead of a combination of products and services.  Does anyone else have an issue with this topic?

There are a few sellers who've mentioned this feature, and I can see why.

There hasn't been any movement on this as of right now, but we'll send over the interest to our Payments team and advocate this for you all. Hopefully they can get something rolled out to help with this in the near future.

Is there a way to assign tipping to services only?
