Feature Request: Tips on services only with Square Appointments

Feature Request: Tips on services only with Square Appointments

I am a hairstylist and have a small studio suite. Why does tip calculate on total rather than just the service amount. Last night when checking someone out who had services, retail plus taxes it calculated the tip off everything not just the service. This makes no sense and it needs to be fixed. Please help.

Re: Feature Request Tips on services only

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this @Dogs

I don't have anything new to report around this, but I can see how it would help for businesses that sell items as well as services that deserve a tip.

If anything new comes along, I'll post an update here.

Yes I agree

We are a hair salon that also sells retails items. When checking out clients, many would like to use the % option, but it calculates the percentage on both service and retail items. Can this be changed to only tip on services?

We're receiving a lot of complaints from clients ... they prefer not to have to use the Custom Tip option, having to ask us for the service amount and figure out what to tip and use (ie: calculating % based on service amount). We've also had to do some returns as the client used percentage then realized it was based on everything. (Example: client wants to tip 20% on $100+tx for hair. They also bought $500+tx for clothing ... so choosing 20% resulted in a $135.60 tip rather than $20.)

I am also a hairstylist in a studio suite. This whole tip calculation based off the total amount (services + retail) is a problem. I am sure there are many of us that feel this way. It feels really awkward and gross at checkout, when instead it could be seamless and feel great! Please add this feature!

I agree. We now have to tell every customer 'if you're tipping please do not choose percentage as it's based on both products AND services'. Some REALLY want to do a percentage, so I then have to back out to tell them the cost of the service alone, and sometimes they ask me to then calculate 'X' percentage for them. It would be amazing if there was a settings feature that allowed us to choose service only, goods only or both goods and services.

Is there a way to ask for a tip on my treatments but keep my products separate? I can't figure out how to accomplish that.

Hey @Collette_Skin and welcome to the Community!

I'm moving your post to an existing feature request thread for this.

This isn't something you're currently able to do with Square Appointments but we've been tracking requests for. There's some workarounds mentioned throughout this thread too.

Is there any update on this request? It looks like other sellers have been requesting/waiting for this feature for YEARS. Come on, Square. This seems simple enough to implement. Help us service providers out here. The awkwardness and separate transactions are annoying, and take away from the seamlessness that Square checkouts provides. I love everything else about Square, and switching systems would be super annoying, but I can't help but feel like a lot of us are being ignored and I'm not sure I'll put up with it for much longer. There are countless other options for hair stylists and service providers that include not only this feature, but also checking out multiple guests in one transaction (I've requested this feature as well).

Still waiting for this feature ... retail products should not be included in the calculation of tips. Moreover, Square allocates tips strangely when transactions include retail.

Is Square ever going to address this? 2017 original post, it is now June, 2021. Please let us have the ability to make specific retail items not subject to tipping.
