You may be looking specifically for our newly introduced Deposit Feature for Invoices. This will also allow you to create a single invoice to track multiple payments and reduce the amount of time you have to spend reconciling multiple payments (deposit, follow-up payments) to a single transaction or sale.

We have launched a way for your customers to pay through Square Installments. Currently, Square Installments is only available to select Square Sellers located in California, Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia. This program is constantly growing! We’ll be sure to keep you informed as we grow and expand to additional sellers and states.

If it will help you understand why it's needed, here's my situation. I own a tutoring/test prep center and frequently invoice customers and they later tell me they want to partially pay and have someone else pay the remainder. If I knew that up-front, I would have just created two invoices, one for each of them, but often they don't tell me that until it's time for the bill to come due. It's a huge headache right now to handle these situations.
Divorced parents splitting the bill, out-of-state grandparents picking up part of the bill, and mom's and dad's splitting payments while one is travelling for work. Right now the system is just not helpful for those situations...and I deal with it quite often.
Any updates you can provide on this feature will be very much appreciated!
Thanks very much Russell, but we're not seeking a way to offer financing. We're merely suggesting clients should be allowed to make partial payments online against an invoice.
Example:
Day 1: We invoice client $25,000
Day 7: Client clicks invoice link, pays $7,500; invoice is marked partially paid
Day 19: Client clicks same invoice link, pays $17,500; invoice is marked paid in full
Seems like it shouldn't be too complicated -- and I'm sure @rohini's team has a lot going on -- but the community has certainly demonstrated a need for it.
It's amazing to me that as other vendors sticevto meet their customer needs, Square doesn't even seem to want to listen. Even banks now offer invoicing with payment abilities and smaller fees.

Hi @LM13 - While we understand that this has been frustrating, customer feedback is not the only part of the feature request process which explains the length it has taken to greenlight this particular feature. You can learn more about what goes into bringing a feature request to life.
We hear you that this is something that you need now and our Product Team is working to get it up and running as soon as possible. However, please note that we do not provide a timeline for any of our product releases. We can assure you that you will hear an update from us or a Product Manager (@rohini) as soon as we have any news. If you need to look into other solutions in the meantime, we encourage you to do what you feel is in the best interest of your business even if it means moving away from our products.
Is there an update on this? I'm having to use PayPal instead of Square for customers who wish to pay for their invoice in parts. Yes, I could make an agreement with them ahead of time and send multiple invoices. I want to give my customers the freedom to pay the invoice themselves as they can. I'm not opposed to an additional transaction fee for the additional payments. I'm not sure why this can't be implemented for your customers? It's an important feature to me.
