Little late with an update here, but wanted to make sure y'all know this is possible with Square Progress Invoices!

You can schedule multiple payments on a Square Invoice by following these steps

Hi there, @LiaJmt - thanks for adding your voice here and checking in on this feature! Good to hear from you. Same to you, @BIONICONE - welcome!

You may be looking specifically for our newly introduced Deposit Feature for Invoices. This will also allow you to create a single invoice to track multiple payments and reduce the amount of time you have to spend reconciling multiple payments (deposit, follow-up payments) to a single transaction or sale.

Let me know if this is what you're looking for!

This needs to be changed.  Partial payments are neccessary for invoicing.  This answer is not really acceptable.  We use your service to make our business less complicated and your suggestion to edit the invoice and resend with each payment is insane.  This can't be that difficult of a solution for your customers.  Paypal has this capability.

ABSOLUTLY

We have the same problem. Hopefully Square can get this resolved. It seems very simple but I'm not a programmer. So, uhh Square, hurry up please. This is a major problem for us.

I don't want to be unfair but to me it feels like all the new features that are being rolled out like the loyalty program are focused on squeezing more money from your customers.  You offered loyalty free and then "upgraded" it which only means you now charge for it.  There are several kinks that I wish you would focus on like the partial payment feature on invoicing and the ability for employees to see how many hours they have worked during clocking in or out.  We loved Square when we first began using it 5 or so years ago but you are starting to put the squeeze on us and take ages to fix simple kinks in the system.  Square isn't all bad but man there are plenty of things to complain about.

I have to concur with HeatherSweetD. Every time I log into my dashboard, there's another paid feature added - e.g., email marketing! I'm not sure how that is making "commerce easier and more accessible to all". I subscribe to this thread in hopes of reading that a solution has been implemented, but all I see are more and more complaints that this feature doesn't exist yet. I just read in an Admin's reply that it's not even a priority, but rather being 'considered' to go up in priority. I'm going to have to go back to using PayPal. I originally stopped using them for political reasons, but have since found that the boycott holds no merit.

Hi @HeatherSweetD and @DanEnt. First of all, thanks for taking the time to visit and post your thoughts in the community. We're happy to hear from you. As for the feedback, I totally here. I can see how it  would be painful to see new features being released, but not THE feature that would help your business run more smoothly. While I can't speak to a timeline about a feature request (way too many factors), I can insure that this feature is being discussed wisely. While it may sounds like an easy thing to implement, often times building new features requires complex engineering work. Having said that, I'll be sure to share everyones thoughts, but rest assured, you're not alone or being ignored. 🙂

For me the functionality to take partial payments is already in the existing system - but I am handling smaller volumes of transactions/clients - so I can't speak to the reality of others.   I wonder if had Square labeled the "Discounts" pane "Discounts/Partial Payments" how much of this thread would exist (certainly some).  What most people seem to be asking for is a higher level of functionality and a more efficient, simple and targeted interface.  The current system is clunky and places unncesseary burdens on the Square user to do a workaround.

The workaround doesn't work.  That's the problem, it isn't about a category label.  Nor is it about creating two invoices.  The fine details especially SALES TAX don't add up in the end. If you are ok with your grand totals after payments being a few dollars off, fine.  If you are ok with paying MORE tax because you can't properly apply a partial payment and correctly account for the right amount of tax, fine.  But for people who produce a custom product or have to order a product, this problem is not "solved"!

Just yesterday we had a large sale with installation.  Installation isn't taxed, it's a service.  They wanted a deposit. This forces us to charge a percent of the sale, (50%), then figure out the tax on that amount, and enter the amount before tax (equalling a payment of 50%).  But when they come back for a final sale, there will not be a way to correctly charge the remaining tax on just the product and still have our grand total right.  This screws us over in the end.  We end up paying more tax than we collect or the customer ends up paying tax on something that shouldn't be taxed.

It isn't just about the grand total being right, if you are using this as your evidence of income, reporting these numbers, or paying tax on these numbers, the details add up and DO matter.  This isn't just an inconvenience.  This is a major reason you will lose customers.  As business owners, we all know it costs dramatically more to get new customers, than it does to retain customers.

This is pathetic and should be extremely embarrassing. It would take me 3 hrs to code this in, yet it takes MONTHS and there has been no progress. It's the little things in life. The little ones, that stupid people can't simply do. You have 9 pages on just this thread of people asking for it and saying they will leave to the first person offering it, yet still no progress.
