Little late with an update here, but wanted to make sure y'all know this is possible with Square Progress Invoices!

You can schedule multiple payments on a Square Invoice by following these steps

Hi there, @LiaJmt - thanks for adding your voice here and checking in on this feature! Good to hear from you. Same to you, @BIONICONE - welcome!

You may be looking specifically for our newly introduced Deposit Feature for Invoices. This will also allow you to create a single invoice to track multiple payments and reduce the amount of time you have to spend reconciling multiple payments (deposit, follow-up payments) to a single transaction or sale.

Let me know if this is what you're looking for!

My customers will have to make an order for custom art while I make it

a 50% deposit is required. Since this is a long standing problem, and a reasonable request for many business models,

where and when is a real solution coming?

What is the best workaround? Is there something new or better than what Sean advised long ago?

I'm somewhat peaved about this as a Square representative told me this is possible before I bought into the system.

There are things that I really like how you have implemented , but this should have been a consideration from the start.

I have read its been more than 8 months since the first request....what is the plan?

@LM13 Hi there and thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately, we're not able to discuss much about timeframes and dates until the actual feature is rolled out.

What I can tell you is that we've informed our Invoice Team that this thread has been our highest viewed feature request thread in the Seller Community, and they've since looked into making this a priority going forward.

It's definitely on our roadmap, but we don't have an exact date or timeline to share.

The best workaround would be to send your customer two separate invoices, 50% each since that is your required deposit amount.

You can even setup a recurring invoice that sends once when the order is placed and then again when you expect the piece to be complete.

Thank you for your patience with this and keep an eye out for updates in the future.

Sean, can you tell me how I would do the following

I will be selling an item (singular) that I need a 50% deposit on.
The item then is manufactured and when finished I need to collect the 2nd 50% to ship
I have no idea what you are trying to describe with multiple items below.

How do I get an receipt to show
1. Full Price
2. Amount paid (50%)
3 Tax on the amount paid

Then an invoice to show
1. Full Price
2. Amount Due
3. Tax on amount due

Is there any way to achieve this? If not what can I do that comes closest.
I understand that Square does not want tro give a timeframe, but this thread was started a year ago
An estimate would not be out of line to ask for

I have the same requirement. Square really??? WHEN are you going to deal with this? Its the NUMBER 1 requested feature as you have said yourself.

Actually I need more than I stated, the invoice needs to state what they bought (item name from matrix minimum, better if all item info is listed. And customer name and address on both receipt and invoice.

Hi @LM13. I'm not sure that I can offer you a perfect workaround. I was suggesting that you prepare two separate Invoices. If you want something to indicate a partial payment or the full price, you'd probably need to include that in the item name.

Hi again @GigHarborVR. I'm happy to share your feedback with the team, and I totally understand your frustration. Hopefully this is a functionality we're able to introduce in the future!

Bla bla bla - same words. Time to look for another solution.

Hi @LM13! While I can't share any sort of timeline for this feature, I'm happy to share your interest in this functionality with our our product liaison team. You can also check out more details on the feature request process in this thread. As for whether or not to break the transaction up with a discount, that would just be up to you!

Seriously. The second someone creates an app that does this I'm switching. I use a carbon copy receipt book and send photos of their ongoing payments when they do layaway payments.

I would love to take deposits on jobs as well. My woodworking is custom and I charge 50% up front
