The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Online Store: Item suggestion
POS Feature request?
Is there an option to have an item tied to another item that when one of those items is added to the cart...the other item would pop up as a suggestion for the employee to mention as an addon / upsell?

Popping in with a related update about this feature request! 🎉
We recently introduced this capability to Self Serve Ordering! Sellers who are using Self Serve Ordering can now include a Customers Also Purchased section that indicates the 4 most frequently purchased items.
I know most of the folks who posted into this thread are looking for this capability for online orders, but I wanted to drop in before that comes to life to let you know that progress is being made. I'll be sure to touch back on this thread when I have more relevant news to share ✨

Another relevant update! 🎉
Last month, we launched cross-selling items as part of the Square Online order experience by presenting a selection of products that complement the item being viewed. By presenting your customers with a small selection of complementary products that are relevant to the item they are viewing, your customers can opt to include them in their purchase. We included an update about this feature here within these release notes.
To enable cross-selling:
- Head to the site editor and open the Order Online page
- Select Item list > Details lightbox
- Check the box to enable cross-selling
- Click Done and re-publish your site

Let's do a quick walkthrough of how to use the Similar Items feature!
Start by heading to your Square Online overview page > Website > Edit Site:
Click the Page dropdown selector, then scroll to the Item Pages section, and click an item to view the item page.
Here, you'll see an option called Similar Items - if you hover over it, you'll see a toggle option:
You'll want to be sure to toggle this ON, and you can click it to edit the settings.
If you want different text to appear instead of Similar Items - you can customize that!
Just click on the text, and you can edit it:
I hope this helps!

Hi Valentina,
While this functionality is better than nothing, having items presented in a list with no image is not ideal. What would be better than a list would be when a customer goes to add the item to the cart, a dialog box pops up with the commonly purchased items including photos. If the customer were to click on one of these they would go directly to that item and repeat the process again. The original item purchased would have gone to the cart already and if they only wanted the single item they would have been able to skip the commonly purchased dialog box and go straight to check out. Any plans to improve the functionality you have as this is not the common method of up/cross selling most website use. Lists don't sell items as well as pictures, especially in the food industry.
Thank you,
Jeff

I'm planning on selling digital products on my website and want to offer an upsell after the person adds the 1st product to their cart but before they get taken to checkout. Is that possible? If so, what do I do?

Welcome back to the Community, @melissa_marcus -
Some other sellers had a similar question in a different thread. I moved your post over there, so you could see all of the info they mentioned.
The best post to review will be the Best Answer by @Valentina. She's one of our Community Moderators and provided some great resources.

Hm - I want to make sure we're on the same page here first, @Michelle06 ✨
Are you asking about the "similar items" feature?
In your Square Online website editor, if you go to an item's page, you can enable similar items.
Please let me know if this isn't what you were looking for!

Thank you for the reply!
No, I meant a section that usually called "Frequently bought together", "Match with" or "Complete your look with" . Since I see jewellery it would be really useful to sell sets.

But is there no way to specify which items are selected for the similar items? It just popped up 10 random items that are not in the same category.

Hi Valentina
Thank you for your directions on how to turn on similar items.
I see that it shows other items that are the same, but how do we showcase "complimentary" items?
If you sell a bike how do you showcase a helmet rather than more bikes?
Thanks Jen

I would like this feature too. Similar items isn't specific enough. It just links everything in the same category. On my site, that means hundreds of items, however I would like to be able to link specific items in the same line. We have a category called fabric. There are up to 10 items that can be of the same theme and produced by the same company. There is no way to link these to each other and exclude the other hundreds of fabrics in the category.
For organization, you also need some updates. When you have multiple categories, there should be a way to nest them under other categories within a drop down menu to make it much more tidy and easier to navigate for the customer. It looks pretty messy when they are all visible all the time, and would be much more friendly to navigate if they could make choices to narrow down what they are looking for! Not everyone wants to search all the time, but browse.

Thank you so very much for the update. I'm so excited about the cross-sell feature being available but have tried for the last two days to follow the steps to enable it. Once I follow the link for the Site Editor I just don't see it. Is it being rolled out gradually? Thank you in advance for your help.
Peace & Joy,
Toni

My understanding is that the new features are only available for the "self-ordering" fulfillment option. For pickups, deliveries and shipping, this does not apply.
