i want to use my iphone hotspot to connect the square terminal.

I want to use my iPhone hotspot to connect the Square Terminal when I am selling at farmers markets. The terminal does not seem to recognize the the iPhone's hotspot. On my other devices ie tablet, the device automatically recognizes the hotspot and asks for the password. Please help, I'm not great at tech stuff.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting your Square Terminal to your hotspot.

 

One thing that comes to mind is the length of your iPhone hotspot password. If your password is shorter than eight characters, edit it to be a bit longer. 

Next, turn the hotspot on and off from your iPhone Settings > Personal Hotspot > toggle the green "Allow Others to Join" switch off and back on. 

 

To connect the hotspot to your Square Terminal tap on the three lines to open the menu and go to Settings > Hardware > Network. Your iPhone should come up as a network option here, and ask for a password after you tap on it.

Hi Arie, Thanks for the reply. The procedure you recommended works for my other devices, but I'm not having any success with the terminal. The password is 13 characters in length

 

The terminal doesn't automatically register the iPhone as a network name option so I have to type it in. Then it doesn't offer an option to enter the password, the screen has a Security option that says NONE. When I tap on this it offers NONE, WEP, WPA/WPA2 PSK or 802.1xEAP as my choices. I don't know what any of these mean.

 

When I go back to the Network screen the iPhone shows as a locked option, but when I tap on it to enter the password, nothing happens. The password is 13 characters in length, but there is way to enter it. Then there is a message at the top of the page saying I'm offline and to connect to the internet to take payments. After a couple of minutes the terminal reverts back to our home wifi and auto connects.

 

I can get the hotspot on my Samsung tablet to connect to the Terminal, and I can get the iPhone hotspot to connect to the Samsung tablet, so the procedure is correct.

 

I'm not sure what to try next, so any suggestions would be great.

The next step is checking for software updates on your Square Terminal. 

 

Tap on the three lines to open your Terminal menu > Settings > Hardware > General > scroll down and tap on About Terminal

You'll be able to see any outstanding software updates here. After the update, try reconnecting to your hotspot.

Finally had some success. After my daughter tried everything she knew, she suggested doing a factory reset before i phoned the support number you gave me. Worked a treat! Lucky for me it's a new device purchase so not much info to worry about losing.
