Will refund complete if customer card number changed?

My customer lost their original payment method card and now has a new debit card.  I processed a refund without knowing this and it is still pending after a few days.  Will the refund complete?  If not, how can I cancel and refund another way?

Great Question.

If a new card was activated with the same card issuer, the refund is normally credited to the new payment card. If the account was closed recently (last 2 months), the refund may post and the card-issuer usually reaches out directly to the buyer and notify them of any next steps.
