Service Charge for non-physical items

I'm caught in an infinite loop...

I'm using Square to capture people paying a one-time registration fee (Membership item type). I also want to pass on the processing fee associated with the online transaction, but I want to be transparent about it rather than just rolling it into my published price. When they checkout, I want to remove the prompt for their address, as the 'Address Not Supported' issue is beyond annoying for me and my users and in my case, the address isn't necessary.

  1. I can't apply a Service Charge because the Membership item type doesn't have a 'fulfillment method' which, as far as I can tell, is what is used to connect the Service Charge to the item.
  2. I can't apply a Tax Rate, as that requires the user to enter their address to determine if the tax needs to be applied or not (even though I want it applied to 'all' transactions, and only have a single 'rate').
  3. If I switch to a physical item type, the user will be prompted to select a delivery type, which, again, is unnecessary for what I'm trying to do and just adds clutter to the checkout process.

Am I missing anything obvious here that would let me do what I want?

Hey there @ImANewUser

We have reached a complicated point here currently Square doesn't offer a way to pass the processing fee to the buyer. Service Charges get counted towards processing fees just as any item because our processing fees are based on the total amount of the transaction being processed.

In regards to Tax Rates, you are correct at this time our online sales are taxed based on the Address entered by the user so this would be considered a feature request. I will make sure to pass it over to our product team for their visibility and consideration.

P.S. Welcome to the Seller Community
