Remove Gift Receipt Option

How do I remove the option to print a gift receipt from the end of a POS transation? Customers frequently hit the print a gift receipt button at the end of a transaction because it's on the last screen and there is no "All Done" or similar message. Is there a way to remove the gift receipt option from the POS so that it just completes the transaction at the end without asking to print one?

Hi there, @MountainHouse 👋 Violet here, stepping into this thread for @Kassi_ and @MayaP.

I reached out to the Product Team who owns the checkout flow on our Point Of Sale. They let me know that the gift receipt option is shown on all Square for Retail devices when a printer is connected. Currently, there isn't a setting to disable the gift receipts only. This would be considered a feature request.

 

I’ve shared your feature request with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on feedback like this. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post.

 

In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates in our Seller Community. We appreciate your input!

Do you want to remove the option for receipts as a whole? Normally, gift receipts have to be created by you through the Transactions section on your device.

On my tablet screen (I have an iPad with one of the rotating base thingies),  it shows an additional page after receipt printing options, offering the option to request a gift receipt but there is no obvious cancel button (even though you can just tap elsewhere on the screen) and so people frequently select an extra gift receipt without intending to. I wanted to remove the gift receipt option only and of course I could still print them if needed manually.

Is there anyway you could add a picture of what you're screen looks like for the gift receipt option? I want to make sure we're looking in the same place. 

 

Also, did you turn on the gift receipt or did you notice automatically?

It seems to be an automatic feature to me, I have not found any place to turn gift receipts on or off!

Hey there @MountainHouse stopping in for @Kassi_ while she is out, sorry to hear you are having issues as well. It does look like Kassi has asked for a screenshot of where you see this option. To print gift receipts you do have to go into transactions and then print from there, it should not be given that option at the end of the sale. If you can provide us with a video or some screenshots of what you are seeing that would be helpful. Thank you!

Yes, it is presented to the customer as an option AFTER they have already chosen a digital or printed receipt. How can I attach a screenshot?

No, we only want the gift receipt option removed from the final screen after the transaction is complete. There is a blue bar about 4" long that says "PRINT GIFT RECEIPT", when you have the screen facing the customer on square stand. This is AFTER the customer has already chosen to have a receipt texted, emailed, or printed. So it literally offers two receipts to each and every customer!

Agreed! This is the most frustrating thing!!! Even after the customer has their receipt sent by text or email, the GIFT RECEIPT option is still on the screen! Many people push that button to complete the sale! It wastes paper, makes them confused, and we dont even offer returns at our store, all sales are final! PLEASE REMOVE THE GIFT RECEIPT OPTION FROM THE FINAL SCREEN!!!

I'm glad it's not just us. Agree, it is unnecessary and wasteful if they accidentally hit the button. And there's not even an option for "no." It seems like a glitch.

I'm not sure if you saw my post earlier in the thread where I mentioned that this is a feature request, not a "glitch" or "bug". I do understand what you all are saying though, it seems that this would be something that could be "turned off" or disabled, and I agree. Unfortunately, that ability hasn't been built out yet but our engineers have received the feedback on this thread for the feature request 🙂
