Refunding, reissuing a gift card

A customer recently lost (i.e. accidentally threw away) a gift card and wanted to have it reissued. From reading the posts here, it looks like the only way to reissue is to clear the balance of the original card (found the card # through the transaction report), then issue a new card in the same amount with a 100% discount. Right? Phew. In this case, the customer's daughter bought it for her and was wanting to get a refund and then purchase a new one. But when you go to transactions and try to refund the purchase of the gift card, that item does not come up for refund – other items purchased show up, but not the gift card. I can use the work-around above, but this could happen in certain circumstances, e.g., someone uses a personal card to buy gift cards for business associates, then realizes they should have used a different card. No way to refund the first gift card transaction?

If you're trying to refund an egift card that already has a 100% discount applied to it, you'll run into an error because there's no money available to refund.

You'll need to find the original transaction (before the gift card was lost) to refund that money.
