Is there a way to change a Variation to its own Item?
I just took over a store and there are two items that have variations versus each thing be its own item. They are lightly similar, but not really variations of a thing. I'd like to keep the history if at all possible. If I export and just take those items, leave the token and all of the other information on the lines, just change the item name to the variation name, then import just those lines...will that change them? Or break my database? I'm new to square and really don't want to break my system. Thank you!

Anytime you create a new item it will have its own history. Even if you're just changing the name and not truly creating a new item. I found this out the hard way and for 2 years it was hard to guess at what we had sold to order new stock. The old history will still be there, but you can't pull a report for "Item Variation B" with "Separate Item B", you would have to search each one separately. Although, on some reports you can filter for more than one item at a time, but you can't separate out a specific variation.

Thank you. That's what I've been finding 😞 It's only two items, so I guess I'll just live with it, or wait until end of year to make a change. I have found that if you export your report and sort it by SKU or token, even if you've changed the name, you can group those sales together more easily. I was just hoping to keep the same token.
