I think so. We've been in business for over 50 years and have tried all sorts of processors, some connected to our banks, some fly by night ones and they all have lower percentages than Square but they all have extra fees added in, many of which you don't find out about until the contract is in place. For smaller businesses these fees add up to a few percentages on top, so your rate might be 1.5% but the fees tacked on (member fees, paper fees, surcharges, etc.) will bump it up to 4% easy, maybe more depending on your volume. Not to mention, most have termination fees, long terms contract and just flat out suck when it comes to service.
Square is a flat rate, done right away. So no hassle of wondering what the bill will be. Also, no PCI compliance worries, which would cost me $40 a month if not done.
Finally, Square offers some good extras like a decent POS, invoicing, marketing, loyalty program, gift cards and so on. More if you really want to dig in like inventory, payroll, etc. Some of these are extra $$$ though. I personally use the invoicing (included at NC) every day and my customers seem to appreciate it.
